Barry's usual drummer in the early days was Ed Greene, and his style was pretty easy to pick out. But the later years are harder to figure out. I don't even know if Ed stayed on right into the 80s.

Has anyone got any idea who played the awesome drums on Barry White's 'Your Sweetness Is My Weakness' ? I think it may be one of these - Ed Greene, Delacy White, The Maestro Himself or Animal from The Muppets! Can anyone help ?

Ed Greene was a great great drummer and Barry White knew exactly how to record him. The drum sound of Barry's classic records always amazed me for its precision and beauty.
In the 80's, Barry's sound suffered with all those lousy synths.
I noticed that on the first BW LP (I've Got So Much To Give), the drums sounded different from the next few records. They sounded bigger, with a louder kick drum. In the later albums, the kick drum was mixed more subtley with the hi hat and snare getting louder and crisper. Ed Green had a nice loping way of playing the hi hat, which is why he is easy to pick out on the early 70s motown records (Hell Up In Harlem for example), Johnny Bristol's records, and the Rhythm Heritage records, just to name a few. His style worked better on funk and soul records than disco, I found.

The Drummer in the 80's for Barry White was Alvin Taylor, dynamite tripple scale drummer.
I know for a fact that Alvin Taylor was the drummer & recorded much of Barry Whites hits. Dynamite drummer. He was one of the best studio drummers around during that time.
They sounded different because Drummer ALVIN TAYLOR was on the scene. He was the studio drummer that Barry White used on a lot of stuff.
ALVIN TAYLOR was the Drummer! - He was a great studio drummer, Barry White used him on a lot of his stuff.
Those were much of Barry's hit!!!
