    Please Id song from bootleg

My friend lent me a bootleg of mixes (before stars on 45) entitled "Homeward In The Rain". It runs about 16 minutes and is 104 bpm. The first song is a woman vocalist and starts off with the wedding march (bells) Lyrics:I saw my love walking down the aisle
and as he passed me by
he turned to me and gave me a smile
    and then the preacher
    then the preacher
    the preacher joined their hands
    and all the people
    the people began to stand
but I shouted it should have been me
huh no it should have been me
you know it should have been me
baby how could you do this to me

great song who is this and I gather the title is "it should have been me"

    Yetta,

We've discussed this record many times here before. The song is "It Should Have Been Me" by Yvonne Fair (1975) produced by Norman Whitfield, from an LP titled "The Bitch Is Black" (Motown).

Kim Weston & Gladys Knight previously recorded this tune in the 1960's. Yvonne died a few yers ago; she appeared in "Lady Sings The Blues" as the main entertainer at the club where Billie has problems picking up the dollar bills with her twat. Richard Pryor tells Miss Ross that Yvonne's character could pick up the whole table with hers.

I haven't seen the movie but somehow I just can't picture Diana lowering herself to do a scene like that.

    JOL,

That bootleg actually sounds like it could be Disconet's At Midnight Medley by Danae Jacovidis. (Somebody help me with this name  .) If it has the intro of the T-Connection song running underneath everything at 33 RPM instead of 45, then that's what it is.

I knew when you wrote the lyrics that Marky would be here first  . LOVE THAT SONG by Ms. Fair! :D

the label on this record is white with the title "homeward in the rain" printed on it and nothing else. "It Should Have Been Me" is the first song followed by a male vocalist and I think the title is "It's A shame" Here's a bit of those lyrics:
    It's a shame
the way you mess around with your man
it's a shame when you hurt me
    It's a shame
the way you mess around with your man
    I'm sitting all alone
    by the telephone
    waiting for your call
    when you do't call
    it's a shame

the next mix male vocalist I think the title is called
    "Take Off Your Make-up"

    Lyrics:
    take off you make-up
    and let you hair down
no more will heartache be coming around
gonna chase your misery out of town
it's time to live ooooh baby
    take off your make-up
    get off the ground
    I got some love
    that won't let you down

one of the other mixes is the original "Rock The Boat"

    Danae's named is pronounced Dane-I.

He has been a dj in the Boston area since 1973. I have some of his tapes.

Nicky is absolutely right that this is that Disconet Medley by D. J. (whatever the name is). I have it and all those songs are on it.

That was the point. Miss Ross AKA Billie Holiday couldn't lower herself to pick up money off the edge of the table with her twat. Consequently, everyone boos her...UNTIL Billy Dee Williams, as a high-roller customer, HANDS her the money...cause she's a LADY.

    A star is born.

I love the name... sounds god-like. But again, I'm confused. You say it's an "easy little Greek female name" but nrgbeat says Danae is a "he".

    Please explain the 'mythology'. :D

I don't know about the DJ but the name is definitely female...

Actually it's pronounced Thana'ee (Th as in "this") and as far as I know it doesn't mean anything special. My mythology knowledge is very limited I'm afraid

Thanks, DeepBeat. Interesting spelling vs. the pronunciation. Maybe Danae in Boston knows something we don't . And I was just bustin' on you about the 'myths'. Although, an Adonis now and then wouldn't be too bad :D .
