    Hi Dayna,

Can u ask miss Holloway how she feels about the fact that, after 30 years of Disco, such a lot of her tracks still set the dancefloors on fire? That Disco in fact is timeless!!!!

    Thx

THE definitive female disco voice !

But those ballads...'Cry To Me', 'Is It Just A Mans Way' and a fantastic version of 'I've Been Loving You Too Long'.
Please ask Loleatta which is her favourite ballad for me, Dayna.:icon_biggrin:

Re: Coming next week,Interview with Loleatta Holloway

I've got a few, one probably is more technical than the other.

    1. How does she feel about her vocals being sampled by later dance music artists (e.g. Black Box or Marky Mark). Was she flattered? Did it open up more opportunities for her when people found out it was her voice?

    2. Which Salsoul label artist did she like working with or hanging out with the best? That could be two different people - sometimes someone you're friends with isn't necessarily the best person to work with when it comes down to business.

    3. When she recorded her Salsoul albums, did she just come into the studio and put her vocals down already pre-existing tracks, or did she sing live with part of or all of the band/orchestra? If she didn't sing live, did she watch the guys put together the tracks from the beginning, and get excited when she heard a song she really liked?

This one might be really out of left field and kind of nerdy, so I don't know if you'll want to ask her this:
    4. When she did TV appearances and sang to a pre-recorded backing track, did they use instrumental mixes from the studio versions? Were they on tape or on acetate? And did she get to keep those? I'm just curious because I wonder if there are instrumental mixes of her songs tucked away in the vaults just waiting to be issued onto CD. A really geeky question, so I don't blame you if you don't want to ask it.

Could you ask her if she had to lie down after some of her more histrionic singing sessions; I often feel worn out just listening to her vocal gymnastics!:icon_mrgreen:

Miss Dayna!-Can you ask her about those historic monologues? How or who came up with such awesome
throwdowns? There is the last half of "Dreaming" of
course, the ad libbing of "Hit and Run" and one that I
don't know the actual song but was sampled in the 90's
that I still scream over-"Do you want me to come downstairs
    with rollers in my hair?"
One more thing-how was it working with Walter Gibbons on
'Hit and Run"-did she work with him in the studio or did he
just remix the track with her taped vocals?

thanks again Dayna for all you do!

Oh yeah, I should add: Dayna, you've seen the little debate Remicks has on the title of Original Disco Man, between James Brown and Isaac Hayes.

I gotta a good schtick for you to wrap up your interviews. Ask the artists who they think was the Original Disco Man between JB and Ike.

Then we can settle the debate once and for all by having an ongoing Poll based on the opinion of people in the industry! :)

Your welcome Thommy, and thank you for always being so sweet, actually I already drafted a question to Loleatta asking if she was given cart Blanch on some of her recordings and was allowed to improvise such as her rap in All About The Papers and other songs as well..
so "great Minds think alike".. But I will deff ask her about Walter Gibbons .. Sometimes the ladies and I get so carried away laughing and talking that I forget my drafted questions and the whole interview becomes improvised.. then if I forget something I feel is important That I left out I will call them back..Xo..Dayna

Disco Funk ....:icon_rolleyes: .... maybe we can just save that for Dayna's future interview with the Original Disco Man himself ........ :icon_cool:

Loleatta Holloway ...how lucky you are Dayna to be doing an interview with the great !

HIT AND RUN and Loleatta Holloway are one of those musical marriages that couldn't have been consumated by anyone else. It's just perfect. That song with her voice ...well it just gave disco a whole new way of presenting itself .... disco didn't have to be light & pretty .... and when done raw and gritty --- darn cool. This was not disco to twirl to!!
I think I played that song for my own personal pleasure more than any other song during the entire disco era ...just loved to have it blaring from my Fiat Spyder ... top down while cresting over the steep streets of San Francisco .... it was the perfect soundtrack ....
Because of the line "I may be old-fashioned ....a country girl" .... I always pictured Loleatta as being from somewhere in the rural south ...but she's not, she's from Chicago .

Well I know you'll ask her about "HIT AND RUN " and the more she wants to talk about it ..the better !! :icon_biggrin: ...but one element about it ... I am curious about .....did she do her singing on it in reaction to the grittiness of the song as it was presented to her ...or did she take the original someplace that then resulted in Vince Montana reworking the song some to fit her delivery . It starts off rather pretty with the back up vocalists cooing along ... but by mid-way when Loleatta goes into her vamp ... the song clearly becomes something else .... This song is very stripped down ... having no strings and no brass ...maybe it did as originally constructed ?? ...... Just principally guitars , keyboards and vibes ... a very different approach to disco ...

Also ... just some personal things about Loleatta please .... does her Mom naming her "Loleatta" have a story behind it ? Did anyone try to give her a stage name along the way ?? Is she still in Chicago ... happily married ... and how're the kids ??

Have a great time Dayna !!!

Is Dayna going to use a ouiji board or have John Edwards ('crossing over') help conduct the interview with him? Or perhaps Whoopi Goldberg will channel him a la Ghost. :)

Off on a tangent with Hit And Run, I've always found this to be a weird track in the way it was mixed depending on the release. I actually like the LP mix with the swooshing phased/flanged parts. But I've found the 12" mix to be weird because the verse vocal sections are missing! It's like an instrumental mix, until it gets to the ad libbed coda. The 12" mix is also looped. You hear it reach the end of the take, and then the outro starts all over again as an instrumental. Not including the 7" and if there were an acapellas released of this track, I've heard three mixes: LP, 12" and that cool 'jungle mix' that was on the 12" Gold series from Bethlehem records in the 90s, which featured louder congas courtesy of Larry Washington. Our main man Earl Young is the drummer on the track.

    Hello Ms. Dayna,

It would be appreciated if you could ask Loleatta Holloway about her memory of Dan Hartman. Their collaboration such as Relight My Fire was so great.

    Thanks:icon_smile:
