So both Mark and myself had just got back from a FANTASTIC time in Oviedo. So we want to dedicate this edition of the Happy Jazz show to the following people who treated us like Kings....So, big thanks to Alfredo & Ana, Hermino Afonso & Elena (who put us up for the whole weekend), Lichi & Rosana (good luck on the forthcoming birth), Luisma & Violeta (Luisma = top chef and host and Violeta for being able to master the Ken Dodds Dads Dogs Dead tongue twister in perfect English). Also to Juan, Juala (Paula), Zigor and Kirsty, Pablo and Jota and not forgetting Lola the dog. To those we have missed (sorry), a big GRACIAS to you all for being such wonderful hosts and spoiling us with untold local cider and local dishes that we still dream of! This show is for you all!

Oviedo is a wonderful town. So clean and beautiful, surrounded by a green backdrop of rolling hills and views the Dutch can only imagine. It was simply too good that coming home was tinged with some sadness at overpriced badly cooked food, hoodies, litter, graffiti and the lovely sight of obese uneducated mouthy chavs that actually think that pale blue tracksuit bottoms look good!!

We would also like to thank Stan Kalopitas (Thanks for capturing the weekend so well with the lens), George Arthur (what a set!), Mark Gurney (Young Jack constantly providing those oh so special dance moves and tales of the unexpected), Stuart Chalk (fantastic music as always especially THAT version of Little Sunflower) and Bjorn (The Bear - Dupree - on the hunt for castanets, ham and the James Brown Fax machine T-shirt) for also making the weekend so so special. You were all great company. You filled the weekend with so many memories that we'll treasure for ever. The laughs kept coming from start to finish and it made the weekend even better. Thanks Guy's - until next time eh?


So back to business for the show. Got to say a big thank you too to Ameet Kamath at Benyo Music Productions - Nanette Natal and also to Craig Pilo - Craig Pilo | Welcome for sending us through some brand new music. Of course, we like to do our bit to promote the unheard of or new music. So, we have included a track from Nanette Natal (remember her? - course you do) called Colors from her new CD called "I must be dreaming" from Benyo music. Also, a very talented drummer called Craig Pilo dropped us his CD called "Just Play" on the Rue De La Harp label. Well worth checking out this one as it features a heavy use of the Fender Rhodes and yes, we are extremely delighted to hear that sound!

We have some Leon Thomas, Lorez Alexandria, Serge Gainsbourgh and Gil Scot Heron also plus new music from Zeep, Sasso, Jaz'Preso and the Middlewood Sessions too.

On a spiritual tip, we have music from the Le-Le LP from 1987 (christ! now 20 years old! never!) courtesy of the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble. More private press business from The Colson Unity Troupe and Black Fairy and Emile Yoan and his Ancestors. Plus, as always, sunshine music from Les Masques, Marcia Marie, Lou Macconnel and pan pipe Azymuth sounding fusion from Romania via Catalin Tircolea!
