    Silvetti's 1980 LP .... any good??

    ******

Something came over me and I couldn't resist getting this (unknown by me) LP by Silvetti from 1980 ( 11.50 USA )

I'm hopeful ....but have never heard anyone make mention of it :icon_confused:

While I eagerly await the carrier to drop it at my portico, can anyone shed some light about it ???

    thanks!

Imo the lp is better than the Concert from the Stars album but nowwhere as good as the one(s) that contained Spring Rain, Primitive Man, Coconut rain and Voyage of No Return. The tracks are not of substantial lenght but still, they do offer bright, lightweight and quite pretty pleasures that I think you'll find well worth your money.

Coincidentally I listened to a Silvetti LP in a 2nd hand record shop the other day which contained 'Spring Rain' but I didn't think much of it (I much prefer Concert From The Stars) & I'm not sure whether it's the one Jussi mentioned as all the writing/titles were in Spanish & I don't do Spanish I'm afraid. Did he release more than one LP containing Spring Rain?

yes he did - one with a sleeve showing a greenish rain-soaked scene with couple embracing under an umbrella, with the dance tracks Spring Rain, Primitive Man etc plus a few slowies, and one with just one disco cut, Spring Rain. On the latter lp, rest of the stuff is easy listening - not bad as such but no good for us furioso movers and shakers.
The same year he hit with Spring Rain Silvetti also churned out an album with totally limp, forgettable disco versions of all the expected latin standards for the Spanish market - I doubt it was ever realesed anywhere else. If you spot a sleeve depicting a dartboard, shun away from it.

Also worth mentioning is that there are two versions of the "Concert From The Stars" LP, at least in the USA. The later one replaces the original versions of "Sun After The Rain" and "Concert From The Stars" with the Roy Thode 12" remixes.

If it's this one don't hesitate to buy:

Other than "Spring Rain" and the other "rains" ("Summer rain" and "Autumn Rain") it has excellent easy listening material. His slow track "Contigo" ("With you") is an absolute classic, at the level of "My Way" or any great bolero, believe me!
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

    Re: Silvetti's 1980 LP .... any good??

Silvetti's "I love you" LP is very nice Disco Album (If you like symphony Disco) especially for listening today without any of the old DJ’s ‘Dance floor’ pressure of the past to worry about. (as in my case)

Unfortunately I remember this LP didn't see to much dance floor action at the time (in my area at least) I believe the reason was that by 1980-81 this kind of ‘Disco’ sound was out of favor by now, especially when for years so many others hit records before this Album featured the same kind of sound.

The title song is very much inspired by the 'Constandino' sound, down to the girls vocals and swirling strings, the same can be said of "Why (can't I live this Romance), this one even sports a "Love and Kisses" inspired kind of 'break' in the middle, “Love is on Tonight” is very nice too, featuring a soft mellow Disco beat, with a beautiful sax solo and strings break.

But by far IMO the best cuts in this Album are "Atmosphere" and "Piano" both this beautiful cuts sound like they were lifted from a movie soundtrack, this cuts could have easily been used as the 'Love theme' in any Romantic movie.

I used both of this songs for years in mellow soft music sets in a few private clubs venues (late twenties, thirty something’s) during the early hours of the night as many of this clubs also doubled up as fine expensive Restaurants.

I remember lots of requests and inquiries for these songs; I'll bet Silvetti sold a bunch of copies of this LP on the strength of these two cuts along.

With regards to Spring Rain, I actually prefer the original mix to the Tom Moulton. Tom stretched out the groove, which was nice, but in the remix, he lost some of the syncopated bottom. It's really hard to describe unless you hear both mixes back to back. The original mix, which I think was on the World Without Words album, and was also the 7" mix not on Salsoul, just seems to have a little extra 'kick' in the kick drum. The kick drum sounds flatter and muted in Tom's remix.

I didn't realize there were two versions of the Spring Rain cover. Are the track listings and mixes the same?

I have the Concert From The Stars LP and the 12" for 'Sun After The Rain', and both feature tracks of the same length and mix, so I'm guessing it's the later pressing. I guess I'll have to hunt down the earlier pressing.

Yes it was mainly full of slow stuff but I didn't get it 'cos it was in such bad condition & they were asking alot of money for it.

The World Without Words record is available on CD, if you're not a vinyl purist. Unidisc released it along with the Spring Rain remix album.

Hmmm, I posted that link here almost two weeks ago, :icon_rolleyes: I guess it confirms what I though all along, half the posters never read any posting carefully, and the other half couln't care less, Like Markydefad and others lamented in other postings, no one replies like they used to.

One of the reasons I'm not bothering much anymore, especially around the 'ID" forum or adding to the vault...Times are changing....

Mix, you have a point there! Bernie and a lot of us are putting many efforts in the main site too, especially the vault. So people, please remember that Discomusic.com isn't only a board but a FULL-ALL-INCLUDED Disco site.

Do check the main site before you go searching the net for records or info on artists coz' we almost have it all ourselves!! For people who don't know: yes, you have to register on the main site to interact but it's also FREE and you can use the same password and nick! It's done in 1-2-3!

And...if somebody answers your question in the ID forum, please say "Thank You" (many of you do that but a few never bother and then you'll finally get reactions like the one from Mixmachine).

Folks, a board is simply a question of giving and receiving. We are 1 GREAT community so: show some love for each other :icon_lol:!

Never be afraid to post, never be afraid to interact!

Mixmachine .... I did read your welcomed response and I did appreciate the details you provided about this record . I didn't pursue your link you provided most likely because the connection when doing so was slow on my computer ....when that happens (often:icon_sad:) ... I move on.

But still, I highly valued the rest of your reply ... I'm sorry I did a lousy job expressing it .....
