At the Pub quiz my wife and I go to, the quiz master likes to put Beach Baby in the music quiz from time to time.....to groans from all and sundry.
Surely, this can't be the same band, can it?

I think of First Class for that one hit only ..... a well done Beach Boys imitation from 1974 called BEACH BABY .
Still, I decided to take a chance on this 45 because of the zodiac reference ... so popular with disco and soul records in the seventies.
ME AND MY GEMINI
First Class
1976 All Platinum
Has a Barry White low voice spoken intro making one think of WALKING IN THE RAIN ... end of another day and we still found a way ... and an overall softness like it or The Floaters FLOAT ON .
This is from their second LP SSTreleased in 1976.... (interesting crotch emphasis ).... MAMG has that low BPM breezy styled sound ... I wonder if there's more uptempo disco to be found on the LP ? (anyone?)
I also have to wonder if MAMG didn't get some play in some gay clubs/bars ... because the vocals come across as if these guys are weak-kneed in love and cooing :
Jim and I .... me and my Jim and I
We're like most couples in the world ... just trying our best to get by ...
Me and my
Jim and I
we're gonna make it some way ... some day ...
...some how ....
we're gonna stick together baby no matter, no matter , not matter what the weather ....
Jim and I ...................:icon_mrgreen:........... :icon_cool: :icon_cool: :icon_cool: .....

surely this wasn't by accident .....

.... If you smell something odd Quinny..... I've learned to think so too .![]()
When listening to this .... even though I'd found the tune to be quite good ... I 'd wondered if maybe this wasn't some of that elusive British humour in play ....especially with that cartoony album cover .... but now looking into it further ..... it doesn't appear to be the same "BEACH BABY" singing First Class group at all ... :icon_redface:
To give it a listen .....
it's the last tune on this sample .....
ME AND MY JIM AND I
me and my ..... Jim (who sounds like Barry White) and I ....:icon_mrgreen:

I think the "Beach Baby" First Class were an entirely different lot I'm afraid, a UK studio type band. The record is out and out pop music of the time.
I'll post a scan of the 'Me & My Gemini' 45 up later .. I suspect it's one of those 45's that there are as many copies of in Europe as there are in America !
As remicks says it's rather good, although not sure about the Barry White comparison, although it depends on you point of reference.
I think I mentioned these guys when I got inspired to start a thread about All Platinum/Vibration/etc... the Sylvia Robinson NJ labels that featured songs where the backing tracks were played by The Rimshots or Wood Brass & Steel.
Me & My Gemini is such a cool track. I love how the 45 has an instrumental version on the flip, which was a trend among a number of the Sylvia Robinson labels. Those were not put onto the LPs.
It comes from the LP 'Going First Class', which shows the guys in an old fashion car. The whole album features the Rimshots rhythm section, and the brought in a slide steel guitar player for the session, so that guitar you hear on Gemini is on most of the tracks on the LP. The guy who produced the LP was Tommy Keith, one of the Rimshots.
Dude, if you like Me & My Gemini, you'll fill your pants when you hear Lady Of The Evening from that LP. It starts off as a slow ballad, then turns into an uptempo dancefloor monster, with the coolest bass riff and string arrangement.
I've been meaning to look for their follow-up album, but keep forgetting. Thanks for mentioning it.
Disco Funk
thanks for the info on this one, DF. Maybe this is the Sylvia Robinson gang's most hardcore disco project???
I'll be watching for this:
This being the correct album .....:icon_lol:
Be interested in your reaction to that one when you do get it ....I've been meaning to look for their follow-up album, but keep forgetting. Thanks for mentioning it.
Disco Funk ... found it for you !!:icon_mrgreen:![]()
