Rare Tony Green production (can anyone shed some light?)

Not sure if this belongs in the track I.D. section, as I don't have any sound samples nor am I actually trying to I.D. a song... In fact, I didn't even hear or buy the thing (doh!). I just remember coming across it at the record shop. It was a two track 12'' with a pic sleeve of the singer with an orange background on the front, black on the back. I remember the singer went by one name, like Nicole or Michelle or something like that and was produced by Tony Green..

I'm going a little crazy wracking my brain trying to remember the name of the artist.. I was looking for it at the record shop today to see if I could somehow find it, but to no avail. No info anywhere on the net either.. Just wondering if anyone here happens to know about this, by any chance....

    Thanks in advance

To my knowledge Tony Green produced tracks for FRANCE JOLI,FREDDDIE JAMES,GERALDINE HUNT,U.N.,GOLDIE ALEXANDER,CINDY VALENTINE,NORMA LEWIS and he also produced the very first LUBA album back in 1980 [on his own TGO label].

I'm trying to remember because I was always buying his stuff ever since the JOLI & JAMES albums came out.

    Hey Kris,

I had to go to the record store today just to see if they still had it, and thank god, they still did.. I was a little panicky yesterday when I saw another disco digger really weeding thru their 12'' section. I was a little worried that if it was gone, I'd never even know who the singer was, what it was called and if it was indeed a Tony Green record and I'd be forever regretting not buying it when I could..

Anyway, I bought it and it's a fairly pleasant cover of Edith Piaf's "L'hymne à l'amour" by a (very pretty) singer named Sharon (and just Sharon). It was from 1978, produced of course by Tony Green and released on Disques Alta on blue vinyl, no less..

Here are a couple of pix I just snapped It's certainly less orange than I remember lol

Thanks for the pics ; now that I see the jacket ; I have seen the record but never bought it.Glad to see you were able to find it.I know how upset I get when I return to the store and find out that someone else snapped up my treasure !!!

In Montreal ; we used to have a large warehouse full of old records...sold at 99 cents each.It no longer exists but I have bought many many hard to find classics there.

I used to read reviews in different magazines and I'd go "Hmmm I wonder if they have it at the COLISEE ???" 9 times out of 10 ; I'd be able to pick it up on the same afternoon.

They tore it down a few years ago ; to make room for a giant library.

Does it sound like the If You Love Me that Green produced on France Joli's album of the same name?

sorry for the very very late reply, FJF..

No, nothing like the song on France's album.. France's song was an original, AFAIK..

Kris, I wish I had it that good.. .99 cents - god damn! I'm already nostalgic for the days when one of the record stores here sold albums for $5 each..

Sometimes I find treasures and just the fact that someone put them in the $1 bin just because they assume that anything released during the disco boom means it isn't worth anything.

    LOL

We still have a few used record stores with great great cheap prices ; but on the other hand we have a few stores catering to the collectors and they know it.For example ; I long to get the B-H-Y album but hesitate to pay $45 for a used vinyl copy.

I once paid A LOT for a SHEILA & B DEVOTION album to replace one I already had and it was a defective copy sold at $25 ; so I'm wary from now on.

I know this is WAY late in the game, but if you're still wondering...

In 1994, Tony Green produced MICHELLE SWEENEY's 12" Single: "This Time", on BIG BEAT Records (DMD2150, on Red Vinyl) The US release had 6 tracks. 3 versions of each remix, on each side. The sticker on the US copies, and (I believe) the UK covers just listed her as "Michelle". I did some promotion work on it. And it did fairly well in the clubs. Kinda early-circuit-days sound.

He did it after we (uh, huh! oh, yeah! shameless self-promotion) did the mixes for the Freddie James LP with the re-make of "Everybody Get Up And Boogie", in late 1992. Following the 12" singles of "Come Into The Jungle" and "I Can't Get Enough Of Your Love", for Tony's US label MONOGRAM Records, which Michele did the bv's and wailin' on.

Sort off the topic but I know what you mean Kris. There's a store like this in downtown Vancouver that charges like $25-35 dollars for 12 inch singles that I've managed to pick up for under $8.00 elsewhere. Crazy.

    I know what you mean...

This website and my stack of old DISCOMAG/DISCOWORLD/RECORD WORLD and BILLBOARDs constantly bring me back to the golden days of disco.

And I long to have the stuff I never could lay my hands on.

But some stores you just know you're getting screwed...if you agree to pay this much.

When I transferred a lot of old vinyls to CD ; I just filled a few bags with 12inches and vintage disco Lps and left them in the alley next to my condo.

Someone picked them up and I found my stuff [I usually make stickers with the name of the artist/title] at this nearby used record store.

That said ; I still love to look for rare or elusive stuff.
One of life's little pleasures !!:icon_lol:

Thanks for the tip on these! Tony Green's post-disco productions are almost a dime a dozen at some shops here, so I'm gonna have to see if I can find these! As far as his material in the 90's goes, I only have a copy of the last France Joli album he did (released some 10 or so years back) - not up to the standard of his disco classics of course, but not without some great gems either (namely the three big club tracks).
