    Re: A Disconet Medley question

It is based on Bits & Pieces III, aka the Let's Do It Medley.

Here are two other threads that discussed it:

This medley was popular because they included a back beat with claps that hid the edits and was easy to dance to.
to add to my own previous words in that old thread:icon_mrgreen:

I see some posters disliked this record at the time, (probably more today) but for me this was a revolutionary bootleg, the adding of those backing claps and 4/4 beat was very innovative at the time if you kept up with the rest of the DJ boots that were produced up to this point (late 79-80).

This technique, ---promptly imitated by others--- made it possible for others to produce all those "Hook on Classics” series --and the “Stars on 45” series-- that came along soon after.

Some of this releases were very cheesy (may be all depending on your taste), and from personal experience I know they got pretty tired after a few weeks of spinning.

I remember trying to avoid playing any of them, but –depending on the club --- many clubbers loved them and they were heavily requested, especially couples that rushed to the floor to dance to this stuff, also older crowds –thirty something--- that grew up on those top 40 hits of the 60's also liked this record –By now “Stars on 45” re-make—to be played at some point in the night.(usually at private clubs)

This records may not have been the ‘hippest’ records to spin for a DJ (don’t think they didn’t know that), but records like “Stars on 45 “ got the job done by satisfying all those at hand, after all, that should be the paramount duty of any club Dj.

But yes, they were also part of every wedding Dj's play list for years :icon_mrgreen:

Thanks Mixmaster-I am familiar with all of those that are
mentioned. But the Bits and Pieces came after the Disconet-
it copied it exactly. The Disconet is of interest to me because
it uses the original artists and tracks. After reading the
prior posts though(wedding reception soundtrack!)I think
I'll try to quietly bury this thread and find the answer elsewhere.....thanks again!

well, if the Bits and Pieces III was first released on Disconet, I'd like to know too.:icon_rolleyes: 'cause if it was I don't recall such details.

You probably checked here already , but in any case , here is the Disconet Discography.

Edit: Tommy, I see there is a "original Beatles meddley" on Disconet Volume 9 Disc 1 from 1987 , I don't know if this is the "Original" or Bits & Pieces III.:icon_rolleyes:

This one was previously released on Vol 4 program 2 disc 1, in 1981/82, although I don't think is the same as the BPM goes from 126 to 163. :icon_rolleyes:

I missed this detail you are looking for, I'm pretty sure that Bits & Pieces III uses the original artists, as oppossed to the "Star on 45 " remake, but remember the 60's portion (with Beatles) was only a short piece of this boot.

Video: I just saw the video fro the first time today,it was fun to see those Chaplin's bits:icon_lol: .

Man, I just clicked on that "Best of" Stars on 45 link, I didn't know they produced so many different ones,:icon_eek:Steve Wonder ??? Marilyn Monroe ??? :icon_rolleyes:

    Re: A Disconet Medley question

Bits & Pieces / Stars On 45 was never released on Disconet. Disconets "The Original Beatles Medley" was not the inspiration for Stars On 45.

Thanks for the link Discomix, but I ever implied the Beatles
medley was the inspiration for Stars on 45,as I know it came
out after the whole barrage of "Stars on"..releases.The Bits
and Pieces/Stars On were released after the Disconet medley
I am speaking of.I didn't see it listed on your excellent link
but I am wondering if it was called someting other than"...medley".I know it existed because I held it in my hands
at a record swap in the mid 80's-I put it down because the
dealer wanted 200.00 for it! When I find the issue/volume #
    I will post it.
