Jody Watley's song to pick is too easy....The Awesome, dynamite, beautiful "Don't you want me" is numero uno!! Shalamar, hhhmmm, I guess i would pick Dancing in the sheets. I loved it back in the day, now it just sounds okay.
I am sitting here listening to the import Shalamar The 12" Collection, trying to decide on what my favorite song is and having a tough time.
Right now i am leaning towards Right in the Socket, though I really like the Jody Watley single, Looking for a New Love, which of course is not on the import.
What is your favorite?:icon_cool:

DANCE!!-To the BOOGIE WONDERLAND........
Loved the remix of Right In The Socket and have a soft spot for There It Is (which on the surface sounds kinda throwaway and light, but the groove, especially those little kicks if ya know what I mean, gets me every time).
Take That To The Bank 12" was great too, but their best remembered and possibly best loved (in the UK) is probably A Night To Remember 12" remix from 1985/6. Despite their pop appeal, they made very good, solid dance tracks IMO, but they weren't my absolute fave act on Solar Records.
While not being too keen on their solo stuff, Shalamar were always my favourite disco band between '78 and '83. Although sometimes a bit poppy, the well known club tracks and singles were always top notch. Great tunes like 'Attention To My Baby' and 'Closer' are stashed away on the albums with a couple of brilliant slowies in 'I Just Stopped By' and ''Somewhere There's A Love'. My favourite was 'Take That To The Bank' - And they were great live too.
favorite Shalamar song: "Right in the Socket" (runner up: "A Night to Remember"). Favorite Jody Watley song: "Still A Thrill" (runner up: "Your Love Keeps Working on Me"). By the way, did you know that VH1 recently tried to re-unite Shalamar, but only got as far as Howard Hewitt. They said no one knows WHERE Jeffery Daniel is, and someone had tipped Jody Watley off about the hunt and she made sure she was out of town.
Shalamar was definitely one of my favorite Solar acts, then again, any act produced by Leon Silvers on Solar had hits that still stand up today as some of the best sounding dance music around, I love all of the club favorites, LP or 12' versions:icon_biggrin: but for my favorites(for today, anyway) I'll go with the lesser known "I Owe You One" for uptempo fav and for slowjams it's always been a tie between Somewhere there's a Love and the not mentioned much, Find the Time For Love All solid meaningful productions that sound just as good today as they did in the 80's.
As far as Jody's solo stuff, Everything is by far my very favorite one,
followed by Friends guest starring MC legend Rakim
Q.D. Earl
Unlimited Music Merchants
Q.D. Earl on Stickam
Q.D. Earl on Mixcrate
"The Problem is....Choice."
1)In the Socket
2)A Night To Remember
3)Second Time Around
(Uptown Festival would be up there too,but there is no Watley
yet)
And Jody's best single as Pepper stated is the Madonna-esque "Don't You Want Me"-still sounds great!

My favorite SHALAMAR track has always been FULL OF FIRE.
My new favorite JODY track is her take on CHIC's I WANT YOUR LOVE [the album version] ; very well done and very Chic-like.

Quinny picked my fav, "There it is" which was much bigger in the UK than in the US!! I've never seen it on a best of pressed in the US!! The elongated quadruple versed extended version which was not on the album is the mix to get. Hewett really hits his vocal highs and what's in that repetitive groove really count.
A song that's very similar to "There it is" was the slower "Sweeter as the days go by" which is most definitely my favorite midtempo.
My favorite ballad was "Somewhere there's a love" which I don't think ever made it to 45 but definitely helped sell the album. It always stood in the shadow of "This is for the lover in you" which like a few other Shalamar tracks got all the airplay and acclaim here in NY.
It also should be mentioned the Howard Hewett has a new release called "If only" and its solid and filled with great ballads."Don't U wonder 2" and the title track is the pick of the litter for me. The first single "Enough has been getting heavy airplay here in NY and has actually been one of the few soul albums promoted by media over the last decade!

'Take That To The Bank' definitely. Not only is it musically classy & brilliant but the lyrics are clever too.A true classic.
...ya gotta beat the street......
Make That Move. For listening, for dancing. It's classic Shalamar.
Three For Love is an all-time favorite album. Full Of Fire and This Is For The Lover In You still sound great.
I also liked Jody's vocals on Right Time For Us from the Big Fun album.
From her solo work, I'm The One You Need is the one I listen to most. And I liked Borderline from her last album.
Shalamar had a special sound together. Slick, sexy, yet wholesome. Music that made you feel good.
So I take it, Dayna, that you'll be interviewing Ms. Watley next?
"Because there's music in the air."
For me definitely: YouTube - shalamar - take that to the bank
Sorry, the poster doesn't allow embedding of this vid!

Hope this is useful:
For members who want to embed YouTube Vids and don't know how, just a simple repeat:
You copy the URL of the vid of your choice, then you type [testyoutube] and [test/youtube]
(without the word 'test' of course!)
You only copy the part after the 'equals' sign: So>>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=testY1MTrLccQJU
And then you paste it between [testyoutube] and [test/youtube]
(without the word 'test' of course!)
So you get: [testyoutube]Y1MTrLccQJU[test/youtube] (without the word 'test' of course!)
And then 1-2-3 MAGIC:
A little 'Second Time Around' anyone
For me (as with most people) it's the remix of Right There In The Socket but I do love a lot more of their tracks (second is There It is).
For Jody, I like a song she did around 2000 called If I'm Not In Love. Another track that had a great remix was When A Man Loves A Woman.
What is the story behind the Shalamar split, it seemed to be a touch sensitive at the time but I never got to hear any more. I saw the three of them perform backing on a track (I think it was This Is For The Lover In Me but I can' remember the artist) on British TV and thought any animosity was over. If anyone wants to know about Jody these days, she has a great myspace site and blog.

never been a big fan of Shalimar but my favourite Jody Wately tracks is definitely "Off The Hook" - Superb...
Found this which is a nice overview of the shalamar history and comments on how Jeffery Daniels influenced Michael Jackson
Guys, if you are referring to an artist's MySpace page you can post the link, it's no problem:

I've never been a huge Shalamar fan. They're alright. Take That To The Bank is one song I don't mind listening to. The only track of their's that I really like is The Second Time Around. I first heard that almost 20 years ago and haven't gotten tired of it.
