what do you do about the fact that turntables need to be grounded and computers don't appear to have terminals to connect the ground wire? Won't that produce a loud hum in the recording if the turntable is not grounded? thanks for your help.

I keep the turntables connected to the mixer and take the feed out of the mixer into an MAudio Duo. The MAudio Duo is an analog/digital convertor that then feeds the information into the computer via USB.

A cheaper way is to use a Y-cable like this one:

Stereo Splitter - 6 Inch Male 3.5mm Plug to 2x Male RCA Plugs - 020-122

The two RCA plugs come out of your mixer and the TRS(male) plug goes into your "line in" into the back of your computer.

For everyone, you must have a program to record into. There are some free ones online.

Also, make sure the TRS plug is stereo.

Not to mention that your computer's sound card isn't going to have amplification or the RIAA EQ curve, so everything will be *very* quiet and tinny.

As everyone else has said, plug your turntable into your mixer or amp as per usual, and then simply connect the tape out or equivalent jacks to the PC's sound card, with whatever adapters are necessary.
