Only one (I think), although the original Canadian version and the Salsoul release contain different mixes. The Unidisc CD contains both versions. I have also seen a 7" not from the album that was produced by Tony Green, but I haven't heard this yet.

"They" were a studio project, not a band... and yes, Gino did contribute to the album. I don't know about "played" though, especially given that 90% of the music on that album is sequenced and not played at all.

This is "Magic Fly", out on TK (TKD 49) in 1977. A great and sought after classic!

"Magic Fly" is on the LP and was not produced by Tony Green. This was another track altogether, and it's definitely not on the album. This was a Canadian 7" on Disques Direction, the originating label for all Kebekelektrik releases.

I was going to pick it up a few months ago, but the store (which only sells 7" singles) shipped most of their disco to the UK. They still had this one, but after hearing that, I was so discouraged that I simply walked out.

Graham, believe or not, "Magic Fly" is produced by Tony Green. Or, at least, he is credited as the producer on my copy of this TK 12" incher. The US distribution of Kebekelektrik then changed and next single was issued by the Salsoul label ("War dance" SG 2073), together with the album. Another version of this track was issued by the canadian Rio label too ("War dance" in a slightly different version. RIO 17 from 1981).

I used to play a lot the terrific version of Ravel's bolero that is on the album.

(pulls out original Canadian "Magic Fly" 12" on Disques Direction)

I'm sorry, Giovanni. You're right, I'm wrong. Tony Green did indeed produce the original mix of this song.

This is probably the one I'm thinking of. Do you have it? Is it any good?

About "Magic Fly"...the Original is from

SPACE and was released in 1977. It was a

big instrumental Hit in the DiscoEra. Their

first LP was produced by Jean-Philippe

Iliesco & composed by Ecama. Is this the

same song?, because I donīt know KEBEKELETRIK

A similar thing happended to SUPERMAX:

His songs "Dance Dance Dance", "Supermax" and

"Donīt Stop The Music" have been covered by

    the BOMBERS in 1978.

I have it just for the record, since I collect the older disco labels (12s and LPs). I don't think you have to become crazy to get it. Anyway Kebekelektrik (Quebec electric) was one of the first act to introduce heavily synthetized sounds in disco and represents a turning point in this kind of music.

Yes, it's the same song, but Kebekelektrik also had a hit with their version, which is slightly more dancey.

I must admit, it always amazes me when two different versions of the same song become a hit at the same time... witness the early 90s covers of "Please Don't Go"...

Last Year I've found KEBEKELETRIK in midtown for about $12.99. The only song that I was familiar with is "War Dance"(which I love) but I immediately liked the others especially "Magic Fly"! What I consider a bonus for this cd is that it has regular and extended versions:

    1.Bolero (Tom Moulton Mix) 14:02

2.Magic Fly (Tom Moulton Mix) 6:25

    3.Mirage ("T.M Mix) 6:23

    4.War Dance (T.M Mix) 9:03

    5.Magic Fly 4:10

    6.Mirage 6:14

    7.War Dance 8:06

    8.Bolero 15:43

    9.War Dance (12"in Mix) 7:22
