Donna McGhee and Phyllis Hyman provide the back up vocals for Fatback's 1976 LP NIGHT FEVER .You can hear more from her there .

Yesterday I heard a track on DivaDiscoradio called "Make It Last Forever", by Donna McGhee.
It took my attention rightaway, what a great song!!
I searched the internet, and found she only made one album, by listening to short pieces of that album, I believe all tracks are great!
Can someone tell me more about this artist, as I have never heard of her, nor heard her music, the Dutch Disco scene must have missed her completely...what a shame!!! :icon_redface:
DISCO...that's where the happy people go....!!!

high upon a hillside
high up where the stallion
meets the sun
Thanks!
Of topic; why don't I get an email for the reply?
I have the option "instant email notification" on!

Here is a scan of the LP in the vault, with even a comment by Miss Mcghee herself:icon_smile: I also missed her music back in the day and only discovered this LP after the WEB came along and noticed all the comments.
The CD version of this LP was very expensive a few years back (I think the Japanese version was the only one available) but recently picked it up (Red Greg -RG-1002) for a reasonable price.
I also found recently a 12" of another song she did, "you should have told me" on Obago records (OB-201), nice lite funky groovy piece , not sure when it was released , but given some of the drums used (syndrum ??) it sounds like an early 80's.
"Make it last forever" was also done by Inner City.
Well, I just ordered the album on CD . :icon_biggrin: , I have to wait 4-6 weeks for this import CD though....:icon_cry:

Donna's claim to fame is definitely
"It Ain't no Big Thing" a skating rink main stay.
A monster mid tempo masterpiece, I get chills everytime I hear it.
One of my most praised Patrick Adams productions:icon_biggrin:
Rainbow Brown also released a version of it, i like it but it doesn't stand up to Donna's version.
very hard LP to find, and expensive....:icon_confused:
Do As I Do is another nice cut from the LP
BTW - iTunes has the entire LP available

well, seems strange that still someone does not know the Donna McGhee album., since it has been one of the much talked about and much searched for record of the last 10 years.
By the way, with a reason, since it is wonderful disco, Greg Carmichael and Patrick Aams at their best.
It was reissued on vinyl also recently, but the originals still demand 200-300 bucks, if you find one....

OK, 22 euro for the CD, incl. shipping is the way for me.......!!
BTW, Giovanni, you see it is still possible to discover unknown DISCO music (for me, that is..!), did you ever heard of Spargo, Mai-Tai, The Chaplin Band, Daniel Sahuleka, Boozy, The House Band, Liberation Of Man, Fox The Fox, The Time Bandits etc, etc. all Dutch Disco bands/artists, that made good music, end seventies, early eighties...!!
DISCO...that's where the happy people go....!!!
Sky, well I know all those dutch disco acts, some of them I like (Daniel Sahuleka, Time Bandits, Mai-Tai), some other not, but I) really think that disco has a lot of hidden treasures and gems for all of us to discover. I still find unknown (to me) and wonderful records after 30 years buying music and collecting!

Finally. finally the CD arrived...!!
Two internet company's told me they could get it, but after months of waiting they couldn't, so at last, I found a used one at a NY(!) based internet shop, payed about $40 for it!
The album is great, the two highlights are of course "Make It Last Forever" and "It Ain't No Big Thing".
Somehow, to me, the album reminds me of "Portfolio" by Grace Jones....!
DISCO...that's where the happy people go....!!!
Yes indeed!
Patrick Adams also cut "It Ain't No Big Thing" with Rainbow Brown. and it's a decent version
$40 is a tidy sum to pay:icon_smile:, and if it was just your personal preference to own a physical copy, then definitely worth the money
But for those who may not have the dough, iTunes does have the album at their standard per track price![]()

i LOVE this song!!! like both versions but for some reason i prefer the donna's one (maybe because it was the first i heard?:icon_confused:). But never heard any other songs of her...i'll have to check those itunes! but it would be great to have the LP
i didn't know that chaplin band was dutch band ... i've only heard "gold" from them...
For people who are not familiar with Donna's music, check out her Space and listen to some of her great tracks:

Ooooooh, shes in Bumblebee Unlimited too!!!! I love, Love Bug and Lady Bug.
*bump*
" Make it last forever" is to my ears still timeless !
Awesome looping Barry White like strings , superbly paced rhythm & groove , enveloped by Donna's sensual moans & groans make for one sexy song , i for one will never tire of dancing to this moody classic .
Im wondering if any of you know of other songs that are similiar ? in tempo , capturing the same type of groove ?
Its a big ask , so sexy sultry vocals are optional
Dayna thanx for the pointer to Jocelyn Brown .
