Taana Gardner, Saturday Night Band ...
Hi,
Do we have a definitive list of the DJ Double packs that were given out to DJ's BITD please ?
I can recall:
France Joli
Pinocchio/Masquerade
Instant Funk
Martin Circus
Theo Vaness
Not sure how many were done, but it can't be that many, maybe less than 15/20 ???
Let's get it logged![]()
Thx

Taana Gardner, Saturday Night Band ...
Thanks LD....just remembered Musique, U.N. ...
I also remember BOMBERS' 2nd Lp on WEST END.
The 5 track album came out on these disco discs minus one track.
KRIS
Best Of Silver Convention (Midsong International Label)
Yet another Prelude release to add.. Sticky Fingers also came out in a double 12'' promo..
Salsoul released "Larry Levan's greatest mixes" in a "Special package for Disco Dj's" containing 2, 12" singles @ 331/3, Bernie's info in the vault claims there was one release containing 3, 12", I never received this one.

Saturday Night Band's second album featuring Lorraine Johnson was released as a double Lp. Although my copy includes a 12" (at 33 1/3 not 45 rpm as the sticker claims) and the LP:icon_rolleyes:, weird... I probably removed the "Keep those lovers dancing" 12" (as this was the only song I used) and placed the retail LP in the same sleeve to keep them all together.
I believe the Philadelphia classics double Album (1977) containing a bunch of classics was also released on a DJ bundle with 12" single editions of this hits, including Melvin's "Don't leave me this way" and two others 12" singles, I don't remember exactly as my copies are scattered .

Speaking of Salsoul :

...ya gotta beat the street......
The Peter Jaeques Band Fire Night Dance lp was also a double DJ pack. And again, it was on Prelude.
While we are on the subject, wasn't the entire Thank God It's Friday soundtrack released as a series of DJ promos? I have seen them on ebay as a "collector series". I think they are a mix of single and double-sided 12 inches.
Does anyone have this complete collection? And can anyone also confirm if every song was released as a promo?
There was a Loleatta Holloway LP that was released like that, as well as some album by a Colleen Heather on West End. And wasn't the Baker Harris Young LP considered a 2x12"?
As someone who didn't live through that period, I found the 12x2 concept confusing. What was the difference between calling them 2 12"s and just a double LP release?! Was it because they only featured 2 songs per side? If that's the case, then why didn't Frankie Crocker's 76 LP (the one with Poinciana, etc...) fall under this category?
Disco Funk
Most of them were promo-only for club DJs, who had become accustomed to only spinning 12" singles (cut louder and easier to cue) and many simply didn't bother with the album tracks. The labels did this to encourage DJs to play the other album cuts and not just the singles.
About the Thank God It's Friday promos, I found this on ebay;
eBay: THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY - COMPLETE DJ COLLECTORS GIFT SET (item 290113816141 end time May-14-07 06:05:44 PDT)
Some songs are missing, but one reason may be that those acts are on different labels.
