An unexpected club HIT!

I'm not sooo fond of it now, but BITD I used to play it quite a lot, to good floor reaction. Even then, it was difficult to fully embrace it, after all the MOR stuff he put out previously in his different reincarnations. He (Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66) was someone I'd lump together with Herb Alpert (& the Tijuana Brass), until Rise, Rotation and Red Hot totally blew me away.

1st of all, let me say that it's always a pleasure seeing your responses and to all the other DJ's on the board, it seems like you all are celebriries to me. I was always fasinated with your job and even today i wish i knew half of what ya'll know. As for "I'll Tell You" i absolutely LOVE this song. I still listen to my 12" on the turntable and I am surprised that it is on CD. I have neber heard it at a club before but i would love to have danced to it. Question for all the DJ's now. Do ya'll dance?

I'll Tell You was my favorite Sergio tune until I heard "The Real Thing" That's another good one from him.

Sergio Mendes' "I'll tell you" was an instant hit in Miami's clubs and vicinities, it was tailor made for local Djs that were switching over to the new "funky lite" sound that was emerging at the beginning of the 80's until Latin hip hop /freestyle basically took over the area's club play list a couple of years later, I personally used this record on and off in sets until at least '82. :icon_biggrin:


The classic intro was so identifiable in the city’s clubs that it was 'sampled' and used as the ‘opener’ in a 1980 special club mix produced in Miami called "Funky mix"

I ABSOLUTELY "LOVEDED" THIS SONG, BITD! LOL! I used to listen to it every morning before school to get me going. Someone has sampled this in recent years. I think it was Monifah.
