That is most interesting :icon_cool: ...... thanks disco1999. Loved hearing the breakdown of the instruments ....how they are used in well staged combinations .
And then there's the fact that the bulk of the instruments are played live in the studio together .... at once .... including the live hand claps....

Interesting to hear the congos brought up to a more hearable level. And also the male voice that is otherwise barely discernable on the final released mix.
On the mark sentiments delivered with vocal perfection and conviction. I remember clearly at the time ....listening to the phrase "these are the good times" .... knowing in my heart it was so true...

Great record . ......with a great sound .

------ There's something about GOOD TIMES
    all right :icon_biggrin: .................................................. .

What a great find! Well done! Fascinating and totally absorbing insight into one of the most iconic Disco tunes of that period. Spookily I'm playing it this Saturday night on my radio show!

Yes, this was very entertaining. I would love to hear the other stories of some great Disco classics, such as Donna Summers "Love Trilogy" album. The moans, the violins, the guitar licks, Thanks for the audio on "Good Times"

Very interesting stuff. I always like hearing alternate presentations of songs I know and love. Like discovering a new song.

Another song that pays homage to Good Times is Rock Skate Roll Bounce by Vaughan Mason.

I wonder if the Bernard Edwards was familiar with Hollywood Swingin by Kool & The Gang. I doubt he NEVER heard it, since it was pretty big at the time. It's obvious that Queen borrowed the bass from Good Times, but did Good Times borrow its bass from Hollywood Swingin?

Yes, it was on BBC Radio 2 and broadcast on Monday 1 January 2007.

I posted it as an upcoming event at the time in this post:

Will Disco soon be revived and resurrected with the name once again being used? I hope so!

Fantastic and superb broadcast! Just goes to show how special, intense, and delicate disco music was. The artists back then were "pure artists and composers," putting their heart and soul into those records, not all of them, but the most of them.

"Good Times," by Chic was a classic record; but I had no idea how specially tailored and produced it was. We get so used to hearing a song on the outside, not really knowing what's deep in the heart and soul, guts that is, of the song. A lot of time, energy, spirit and heart went into producing this songs and most other disco songs.

Most importantly, the human soul and spirit were into the majority of these disco records and albums, something that is inherently missing in these commerical and soulless, high technology times we are now living in. It took a lot to succinctly produce these songs and records.

The strings is what really hit me, don't get me wrong, I love the bass, drums, guitar, percussion (congas and others), but those strings man really added spice (Irving spice?) to disco songs and records.

Most Disco music may have been repetitive and mindless as the rockers and others who hated it stated in the day, but some of it was really really special and no other music, even dance/techno which disco evolved into, will ever sound like DISCO.

    Those were indeed "GOOD TIMES."

I thought it was revived in the early 90s? Did it go away since then? I think it's still around, just not overplayed on the airwaves like bitd.

Same here where disco really got a boost in '95, disco radio shows, few disco clubs opened (some clubs, like "Funkytown" remain open as of today).
Unfortunately, I don't think this phenomena will be repeated in future generations.

Disco got a support boost back in the 90's but it wasn't enough for me.

Look, if I can't have the phenomenon back like it was "back in the day," then at least give us the name back; once again call it DISCO because that's what all this dance, techno, house, garage, industrial **** is!

----- I think a little too much credit is given here for CHIC's bass line . It wasn't that radical . You mention HOLLYWOOD SWINGING Disco Funk

Isleys and Kool & the Gang have very similar basslines indeed, but that was the trend of those years, so I agree that the famous Good Times bassline is something that had to happen in those years sometime.... from someone, and it was fromChic. But there's no doubt it's the greatest driving bassline of all times, and we could compile an entire almum with clone basslines.
Just listen to NARADA's "I shoulda loved ya" and "Tonight I'm allright"..... Another one is PIKE "Good feeling" from 1983, a record everybody seems crazy for, nowdays
