    Exclamation Ian Levine's YouTube!

Instead of posting all these videos, I think it's more appropriate to mention the fact that Ian Levine has opened an official page on YT where there are tons of clips, Disco, Soul, HI-NRG, Motown, Northern Soul.

    Awesome: check this legend out!

The Bonnie Pointered version of their own HEAVEN MUST HAVE SENT YOU is terrific too. YouTube - The Elgins - Heaven Must Have Sent You

There's something really alluring about their female lead ........ not phony .

Ian "Myspace" sites are full of great obscure and previously unseen stuff. The Elgins 'Heaven Must Have Sent You' has a bit of a story...the original Motown recorded version was by The Elgins and the lead singer was Saundra Edwards. She left the group and was eventually replaced by Yvonne Vernee who had recorded a track called "Just Like You Did Me' which is a very desirable record on the Northern Soul scene. So Ian recorded the group on this updated version in the style of Bonnie Pointers Disco version with Yvonne as lead..he also recorded some very nice tracks with Saundra Edwards too.

There's a scan of the record label up here -

Ian Levine's often tried to copy that Dr.Buzzard sound e.g. Barbara Pennington's 'On A Crowded Street'. I'd rather have Dr.Buzzard any day. Ian's lyrics are always so corny IMO.:icon_confused:

I put tried to copy as I don't think he succeeded in getting the sound quite right. It's like when Giorgio Moroder tried to copy it on 'I Remember Yesterday'; it just wasn't as good as Dr.Buzzard IMO.:icon_confused:

In that case, I would say that Dr Buzzard tried to copy the sound of Miami dance bands of the late 1930's and early 1940's but I don't think they succeeded in getting the sound quite right. :icon_biggrin:

Dr.Buzzard only incorporated elements of 30s/40s music in their material & then added clever lyrics & 70s sounds too. Ian Levine doesn't really ever add anything; he only takes away IMO. (but I'm sure he enjoys the rewards!)
