Videoskooter (Johan)
- born October 31 1963
- went to a private Catholic school where I graduated in modern languages, law and accountancy
- since my parents where on the road and very busy I was raised by my Italian grandmother. In the basement of her house I had a soundsystem and there I invited friends and learned how to spin records. I caught the Disco fever very early! From the moment that the early Philly Soul and Eurodisco was conquering the Pirate stations and the Belgian clubs, where my niece sometimes took me ('74-'75) , I was hooked for life.
- In 1987 I was drafted for the Belgian army where I was trained as a stormtrooper. I did my 1-year-service with the Military Police where I did surveillance and motorized escorts.
- After that, I set up a radio station in Brussels, soon followed by a second one. Free radio in Belgium was illegal and I was arrested 2 times for breaking the piracy laws. Both times Police confiscated a fake transmitter and 24 hrs. later we were back on air. We played Top 40/Pop/Rock during daytime, with many and enormously popular request shows. During the long nights we turned full Disco/Funk/Soul, mostly live mixes. During weekends I played at small Belgian venues.
- When pirate stations turned legal, I sold both to a Scandinavian Company and I joined my family on the funfair.
- There I started with a sideshow (strippers and horror-illusion), then I got my first Bumpercartrack and now me and my girlfriend manage 4 tracks and a Speedwaytrack. My mother still tours with a Logflume, Rollercoaster and 2 Breakdancers.
- a few years ago when I had a severe accident and whilst being stuck in bed I discovered DiscoMusic.com whilst looking for some info on a group, started to browse the amazingly documented site, registered for the board and got hooked. Learned a lot about the Disco-era, discovered many new (vintage) tracks and met great people, first of all Bernie and so many others. I'm honoured to be selected as a mod on this highly repected site and I hope that we'll all keep enjoying ourselves while conversating and learning. And if I can do my new task half as good as Bernie and Nick Nack, who were moderating when I joined the board, I'll be a happy man! May the Disco gods bless you all!
All of you know them well from their regular postings and I ask that you welcome them to their new roles. I'm sure they will do great so please give them a big hand.
Remember the above forum leaders are in charge of the various sections of the forum and they do have the power to enforce forum rules so please respect their roles and decisions.
