A & E cable channel disco special
Awhile back, about 7-8 years ago, the Arts & Entertainment channel presented a one hour show commentary by disc-jockeys, with short clips of music, and a few short interviews by music artists. Mostly it was the DJ's talking about the era of disco culture, how it started, how it lasted and made it big in the underground clubs, and how it came to it's end.
There was talk about David Mancuso, about the underground clubs, about the movie Saturday Night Fever. "It was disco, Saturday Night Fever, but it was also the end of disco, Saturday Night Fever."
A man talked about the disco record demolition in the notorious baseball park, and how disco all over the world had come to a screeching standstill. Then he went on to talk about "disco's revenge" cultivating itself back in the underground clubs from which it was born.
There was actually a male commentator, who I believe was apart of the group New Order, who made a statement that disco was "it was dance music. . .but it seemed to go somewhere!"
Then another gentlemen commented that he had himself composed the song HIGH ENERGY which was performed by Evelyn Thomas.
This show had many clips of the disco clubs, and I think even Donna Summer commented during this hour long telecast, how Giorgio directed her singing during their studio recordings, and she (laughably) immitated his foreign accent. Really quite charming the way she addressed herself as Giorgio probably would have.
I just want to know the exact name of the telecast and if it's available on dvd. Thanks, Robert
By the way, one of the commentators called "Love To Love You, Baby' the perfect disco song.
disc jockey from the mid 70s to late 80s, and got free booze for it.
