Mmmm... what attracted me to this topic was the caption "Live disco acts". I didn't talk with any of those celebrities, but saw a couple of "nostalgic" concerts on the 90's: Gloria Gaynor and Kool & The Gang (I told this tale several times in the forum, so I'm not boring you with details).
However, I remember reading in the papers about visits of disco acts to Argentina right in the middle of the disco craze (I didn't live in Buenos Aires then and the international acts didn't went further than that). Two names come to mind:
-Gino Soccio: was in Buenos Aires doing promotion for one of his albums (I think it was "S-Beat"). I had a copy of "Outline", so when I saw an interview on him in the paper, I went for it (maybe I have this somewhere, have to check). The journalist -as usual then, not very interested in the disco phenomenon- pointed out how Gino was trying all the time to shake off his disco image and present himself as a rock guy, dropping names, talking about his guitar style... He probably was toying with the idea of doing a concert tour around here, but in the end it didn't take place.
-Boney M.: they indeed DID a concert in a Buenos Aires theater around '79. The news -not very big in terms of space in the press- was that the audience had gone mad because the guys lyp-synched all the time! Recently, a Demis Roussos concert had been a disaster for that reason (remember Roussos was a big star then), and there was talk of this being a trend between artists tired of doing tours or just not good enough to sing live.
Then, 15 years later, I myself saw a Gloria Gaynor concert with all instrumentation triggered from a DAT machine and a fake band pretending to be playing behind her! :o Really bizarre.
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
