    Banjo in Disco

I love Al Downing's I'll Be Holding On (1974) that has good banjo lines. I like banjo's sound. Does anyone know the other recommended disco tunes with banjo lines ???

    Cheers,

The Invisible Man Band: "X Country"

Mandrill: "Happy Beat" (if you don't know this one yet, It'll blow your mind!)

If you like the banjo, you'll probably like the ukulele as well. In that case, Bart Bascone's "Disco Island" LP is a must. All tracks have those ukulele riffs...

Mandrill's "Happy Beat" is on the "We are one" album. Amazon.com: We Are One: Music: Mandrill

And if you like that sound, get "Just outside of town" as well.

    Here's the Saturday Night Band:

    Hello again,

I was reminded that I have already the Saturday Night Band's CD, so will check out the tune now, and just bought the Mandrill's CD according to the hyperlink you mentioned:icon_razz:. I think Invisible Man Band's CD is not available (invisible).

Anyway, many thanks again, KoolChris !

Thank you thommy2458. I will check it out, too. I am psyched to find there are many disco tunes with a good banjo riff:icon_smile:

How Much, How Much, How Much I Love You (Love and Kisses, 1978) is the Constandinos song with the banjo.

"Excuse me, Miss Thing, but both of us spent time on that couch"--Blaine Edwards

Another nice information. I didn't notice the tune has banjo riffs although I bought the LP many years ago:icon_eek:. I need take a listen again caefully:icon_lol:. Also I would like to get the CD of that (I believe it's no available now...).

    Thank you so much, Salsoul1975.

Speaking of Bonnie Pointer, doesn't Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch use a banjo?

Maybe even the break in Heaven Must Have Sent You also?

Salsoul Orchestra's New Year' Medley has a lot of banjo.

Another one is KAT MANDU's 1981 single "I WANNA DANCE".

Very laid back and funky and the banjo solo is quite unexpected.

What a discovery ! I carefully listened, after a long time since purchase, to my Kat Mandu CD and found banjo is used. It's a unique combination of the synthesizer and old-fashioned banjo riffs.

I also have checked out my ''Hevean Must Have Sent You,'' but was not sure whether banjo is used or guitar.... But it's a nice tune, of course.:)

    Thanks anyway !!:icon_razz::icon_biggrin::icon_razz:

True!! I didn't remember so at first, but if you listen close it's there, not prominently, but accompanying the electric guitar riffs, as a background sound. I'd always assumed it was percussion, but it is in fact banjo.

This one might be a little harder to find though, as I've only seen it a few times, and in Europe. But a great record to get, if you can find it... Look in the vault in a couple days, I'll try to post it when I have a minute...

    Re: Banjo in Disco

In the 1978 French LP by Leslie O'hara released on 'Crocos Records' (337703) on side B you'll find "Disco Banjo" a medley of old country music hits (Mister Banjo, Yellow Rose of Texas, Oh Suzannah) with plenty of Banjo laid down over 4 on the floor beat, Disco strings and girly background vocals.(and cow bells).:icon_razz:

Back in the day I personally would never even considered spinning this song though, I remember picking this LP on the strength of the high energy title cut " Gipsy Boy" that never as far as I remember made any splash either. Another cut, "It's America" sounds today as the best Disco song in this Lp.

I am glad to have gotten a lot of good information. I really appreciate it:icon_biggrin:, considering about buying some of them including Hallelujah 2000 and Disco Banjo (literally:icon_razz:).

    Thank you friends.

Right on! I'd forgotten about the "Disco Banjo" suite! But beware, it is a little corny. Depends what you're looking for. My favorite cut is "Figaro Baby", with the brass break, a good mellow part to sample.

I'd still start with Mandrill's "Happy Beat", and Continent n° 6's "Jungle Jamboree". When you do get them, leave us a follow-up note to let us know what you think of the tracks suggested...

    Re: Banjo in Disco

    Hi,

I bought Leslie O'hara, Continent No. 6. and Mandrill (CD) , and took a fancy to them all:icon_razz:. They cost me not so much money---around $20 each including shipping charges.

Especially Mandrill's Happy Beat features solid Banjo riffs from the beginning, which is so nice. Continent No. 6's Jungle Jamboree has a very unique melody and arrengement with Banjo. Leslie O'hara's 'Disco Banjo' is also unique... yeah some might say it is strange and cheezy (?) if they take a listen.... but I like it anyway because it's Disco Banjo with firm Banjo riffs !!

    Thanks for information again...

Unfortunately, I don't have it on hand (somewhere in my messy room), so cannot check it out:icon_cry:, but noticed banjo riffs in the background while listening to music sample on-line:icon_smile:.

    Re: Banjo in Disco

yes Leslie Ohara LP was exactly the example i wanted to quote.
yes it s very cheesy... but so Frrrrrench Disco and Euro not-serious example!!
Though their composer are brilliant electronic references with other stuff.
At discoqueer parties, I played "Gipsy boy", "Figaro Baby" is very campy with "figaro ci figaro la lala lalal alalala". "Disco banjo medley" got a powerful beat. "Hey mister banjoooo, play a song for me". Good in a bar ! or for a "little house in the prairy" theme night....

'We've Arrived' by Loose Ends from '82 features banjo. I really like the track but find the banjo spoils it for me.:icon_confused:
