I believe Santa Ezmeralda featuring Larry Gomez
This might be a really stupid question, but...
Who did the original version of this song? I've been restoring El Coco's "Cocomotion" LP, which ends with their version of it. It's quite nice, and I was under the impression that this was a fairly well-known song. I'm sure I've heard it before... but I haven't been able to find the lyrics to it, or even who performed it originally.
Anyone have a clue? The only thing I have to go on is that the writing credit goes to Dee Erwin, which hasn't turned up much...

I'm the same guy who replied to your question originally (post - registration!)
I used to have a good solo album by Leroy Gomez called Gypsy Woman or something. It has a nice slow song as well called Lady Let Me Change Your Mind
Hey Graham - my Santa Esmeralda 7" of "Don't let me be misunderstood" (1977) has "You're my everything" on the flip side.
Sorry guys, but the lyrics of the song by Santa Esmeralda aren't the same as "You're My Everything" by El Coco.
Graham, if this is the same Dee Erwin (a/k/a DiFosco Ervin; Dee Irwin) that was a member of the old R&R group, The Pastels, then he might have written this song. I was searching the net about this because it caught my interest when I read your question. Trouble is, I can't find anyone else singing Dee Erwin's lyrics.
Just a footnote: My favorite "You're My Everything" is by The Temptations.
