    I just do not understand...

    Hi folks,
I was surfing on GEMM and I found this message from a seller promoting his record as follows:
"This record is one of the first 12-inch single pressings to offer "Spiral Break (aka Disco Eye Cueing)" that features special circular bands in the vinyl for easy to spot Mix-In Points"..
I'm so curious: what does it mean?? :o
    Thanks,
    Masdefi

You know how an LP has spaces between the songs so you know where to cue the stylus, even if the music is continuous? Well, these records have "spacers" between the intro/verse/break/etc., to make it easier for mixing.

You've probably got some 12"s like this. Motown did a few, and some of the AVI "Q-Mix" ones by Rick Gianatos have this as well.

DJs, was this of any real use? The practice seems to have died out a long time ago...

Graham: I think these were a relatively short lived thing. I personally never found them to be that useful, although I guess they could have been to some.

The "eye-cue" stuff was a waste. I always wondered why Motown bothered. Most of us could find the point we wanted without it.

Hi folks, thank you all for the answer. Finally I can understand now my Lowrell's 12" "Overdose of love" from AVI 12-236.
It has just that space to divide the break from the rest... but I agree with you Nicky, it was not so useful... just a marketing lever???
