we had delaneys in 1990 91, and the lime light form 90 to 95 and they played hi nrg as well as dance, and then thompsons garage etc......
Do you have any favourite clubs/Bars you frequented during the 80`s & 90`s that played HI-NRG/Italo disco ??
We had some good clubs here in Manchester, UK..
ROCKIES - Great HI-NRG venue and regular performances by many top acts of the time such as HAZELL DEAN, VIOLA WILLS, DEAD OR ALIVE, PAUL PARKER, MAN 2 MAN, NORMA LEWIS etc...
CRUZ 101 - This superb club is still going strong.
NEW YORK, NEW YORK. This famous Canal street pub/venue was very popular during the 80`s and 90`s and regularly played all the classic HI-NRG/Eurobeat hits !
HEAVEN - Who can forget the legendary club in London? This is where Ian Levine pioneered the UK hi-nrg scene from 1979 - 1989
FLAMINGO - Another favourite Venue in Blackpool ! I remember going for the first time in 1985 and fell in love with the great music ! Another great venue that hosted many of the top disco/HINRG acts of the period.

Hmm - only went to Heaven once (and hated it) :icon_confused:
My local The Caribbean (Norwich) was the centre of my life from 1984 till 1989, when I met my ex *spit* and left the area.
Was it the Colherne (sp?) in London which had netting draped across a central gallery, with dancers underneath? All I can recall is Off's Electrica Salsa being played (slightly drunk!!!)
The Olive Leaf in Ipswich
Fox & Hounds at Barton Mills
and some random gay pub in the middle of nowhere, somewhere in Suffolk, but for the life of me I can't remember where it was!! Tracy Spencer Run To Me was a firm favourite there at the time tho.
I loved The Archway in Manchester; I think it has special memories for me as it was the first gay club I went to in the mid 80s (it closed in '87:icon_sad: ); I left a hideous straight stag night & sneaked in to the Archway across the road & was transfixed by the heady smell of amyl nitrate, all the men in leather clone gear & the fabulous hi-nrg such as Jennifer Holliday, Jolo & Tavares (Ben Liebrand remix) - I was instantly hooked! I once visited a staright club in Nottingham that was how i imagined some of those NYC clubs back in the day with fabulous lighting & sound system; can't remember the name of it though!

...ya gotta beat the street......
My favorite clubs here in london were:Taboo, every thursday night at ''Maximus''in Leicester Square-Anarchy,every sunday night at Studio Valbonne in Kingly st.(they played EXCLUSIVELY italo disco there)-Daisy chain ,a tuesday nighter at the fridge in Brixton.A few years later Kinky Gerlinky(a truly legendary club, but very few hi-energy/italo records were played there)
Could it have been Part Two? Which, I think, was only gay on certain days. They had an excellent sound-system (aided by low ceilings) which had a phasing button - bypassing the need for two copies of a record. I remember being impressed by stuff that I wasn't hearing in London at the time like 'Backstreet Romance' (Loverde), 'No tengo tiempo' (Azul-y-negro) and 'Face to face, heart to heart' (The Twins). Trouble is they played the best tunes several times a night - which Mr Levine would never have done!
Prior to Heaven's heyday, my favourite London club was Adam's in Leicester Sq. It later became Subway, but maintained it's adept DJs - who could play soul and even reggae/ska alongside the best disco and proto-HiNRG.
cheers, Birdie
Dance Till You Drop
In chronological order............
Oliver's in Chester 1984- My first gay club, and fond memories. I saw Lorraine Mckane there!
Hero's Manchester- Only a couple of visits but I loved it.
Moved to Manchester.....
1985-87
Stuffed Olives- A great pre club bar with a dancefloor.Where I first heard 'Square Rooms' by Al Corley.
The Archway- One of the best DJ's ever Roy Stanier.I loved it that much I got a job behind the bar!
High Society- A young crowd overall, but it was good fun.
Rockies- When the Archway had had it's day Rockies took over.
Number One- Wednesday nights, 50p a pint and great music. The record I remember from here is 'This Brutal House' by Nitro Deluxe
Cruz 101 -At the time Manchester hadn't seen anything so flash, not on the gay scene at any rate.
Chains- When Rockies had to close, part of it eventually re-opened as Chains, and boy was it seedy!!
Legends- The old Rockies and Chains buildings plus other bits make a great club to wander round. The owners George and Julian actually put money back into it too. You can actually go to the loo comfortably! I totally respect them.
Essential- I feel I'm too old and fat to go there now, but when the original bootleg of 'True Love Never Dies' was around, there wasn't a better club in the world. DJ Thaddeus who was there then is now back, so I bet it's superb.
Honourable mentions, Macmillans- Liverpool, City Lights- Bolton, Flamingo- Blackpool,Gavans-Wolverhampton,Gemini-Huddersfield.
Metro 700 West Hempstead NY
J Sprats (both on water and on land)
Papa Gallo's in Astoria Queens NY
Freestyle & Dance Music Advocate
Of course "The Copa" Fort Lauderdale"one of the clubs I worked for"..They had an amazing sound system and played the best music in florida at the time..circa 1978-1980
We had Grace Jones there several times..Actually we had most of the Disco Diva's.. But Grace was always gave the fiercest performances..and was ALWAYS LATE~!!haha..by 2 to 3 hours sometimes more.. It's a good thing we were open till 6am ,Linda Clifford was the sweetest and could sing live the best.IMO..France Joli could belt out a note as well.
(The Roxy)Roller Disco.gotta love it
(The Limelight)That old church was such a surreal atmosphere for a club.. but oh so effective.. The high ceilings..the rails to lean on and look down at the dance floor ..Alotta fun there..
(Backstreet-Atlanta)
It was a HUGE club that also served as an after hours bar..with some of anything anyone could want..leather men,Twinks, straight men & women,Drag queens..etc..Come about 4 am the place was packed with hungry wolves looking for prey.Of course they would stop to dance now & then![]()
