My Numbers Up/I Came To Dance

I've been looking for this for awhile, still no luck.
Someone on these boards identified it as
    Salsoul Orchestra,but I can't find anything close
to this title.Girly, high female vocals "My numbers up" and "I came to dance".... I'm
    coming up with nothing-anyone?

    Hi Thommy,

It is titled "My Number's Up"....

I too am looking for it. Keefe says it was on the "How High" LP and I see that some copies of the 12" of "HH" on GEMM have it on the flip side--but not mine!!! Keefe said there is a cd you can buy--buy I can't find it. AMG has no info on that LP. [update: as of now, AMG shows the title--but no track listing--but says a cd was issued on Unidisc in 2005]

I heard this on the Bobby Viteritti/Trocadero mix on that DJ tape site-- and was instantly reminded of dancing to this--although I never knew what it was

Marky!-Thankyou for the info! I too have that
Troc mix where "My Numbers Up" is featured-
I wonder if this places it's release at the year of 78/79.Do you mean "How High" by Cognac?
If so,my 12" is the white promo and I'll need to
fish it out.So maybe I read the label as Salsoul-
not the group! Let me know if you find it and thanks again

    Thommy,

Yeah, it is the Salsoul Orchestra featuring Cognac or Cognac featuring the Salsoul Orchestra, whichever it was. The 12" I have has a totally different title on the flip---but I saw on GEMM that some copies (maybe issued later?)
had both titles "How High" & "My Number's Up"....

it's a catchy tune....I asked Barry to play it on his radio station and he has, at least twice that I've noticed--but never when I've been listening!!! :icon_redface: :icon_rolleyes::icon_question:

    ok, I googled it:

Salsoul Orchestra, The - How High / My Numbers Up

this is the one I have:

Salsoul Orchestra, The - How High / Nothing Can Change This Love

Thanks Marky-I'm almost positive that my 12" does not have Number on the
flip. Were you as surprised as me to find out this is Salsoul Orchestra? I can't think of anything by them that sounds similar.Maybe it's those vocals
that remind me of the 20's-vaudeville-ish,light and fun. When I used to hear
this on the dancefloor it was such a big mood lifter-and I love the fact that
it was played at the Troc. There was another track that a friend told me
Bobby would play that actually works with Number-I need to think about this and add it to this message...hmmmm...male vocalist.....

To me it the vocal sounds sounds kinda calypso/tropical.... [the short clipped phrasing reminds me of a "man smart but da woman be smarter" kinda tune, if that makes any sense?]..with that insistent percussion/cowbell makin' me wanna DANCE!!!!! ....someone (Jeff) sent me a tape from the I-Beam recently and this was the last track on the set....but it cut off before it ended--so I would still like to find a cd of the LP or a 12"

"I Ain't Jivin' I'm Jammin" by Leon Huff! And
your right it's more calypso than vaudeville!

If I remember correctly, on that Troc tape, Viteritti mixed "My Number's Up" into the break of "This Time Baby" and then mixed back to finish "My Number's Up"...very similar instrumentation--sounded great.

The 7:47 version is also featured in the "Salsoul Orchestra - High High" Album, this song is produced by Bunny Sigler .

This one also sounds to me like Calypso/Tropical along the lines of "Disco Reggae" by Kalyam

    or Ralph McDonald's "Calypso Breakdown".
