I tell ya...it's so pathetic that in this day and age...all these young guys (meaning all these kanyes,Combs, ripping off all this music from the 70's & they give nothin' back...There just cashin in...& we don't even have not even 1 Disco radio station..In NY!!! This is ^%$SH#T!!!! & just imagine the music listing program...of all the songs they could be playin' it really boggles me...there is a huge market out there of people in there 20s that would love to hear these Disco classics...but how can they when all they are fed is this rehashed crappy R&B wannabe childish melodies over disco 70's samples...it's disgusting and sad @ the same time...:icon_mad:
:icon_cool: Hey, I couldn't agree with you more, No one would be happier than me, to have a station willing to explore the massive catalog of music from the 70's and 80's. (I'd be willing to mix for free on the air, if it would help get them off the ground) The big problem with the station owners is I don't think they believe such a station would be profitable. at least not as profitable as a Pop or Hip Hop station. As far as the 20yr olds, the problem with them is they've got the attention span and loyalty of a brick, most of them(not all) are followers, followers of style, music, actions, etc. And I base my opinions on 1. the parties we've DJ'ed lately with a younger crowd and 2. a have a teenager (as do most of the people I know) So to depend on a large number of them to support a disco station in the long run, probably not a sure thing,:icon_lol:
Case in point, there seems to be a new station in Newark, NJ "Streetz 96" which was broughtto my attention via a taped on air mix session by Niem Johnson someone played for me, where they were hinting to a weekly mix by him on Sunday nights (6-9pm) Niem is like a legend in these parts, so right off the bat I thought, wow finally somebody attempting to fill the spot of "Mix102" which disappeared a couple of months ago. But, it seems 96.5 is a Hip Hop station, with maybe a old school mix show here and there. I'm still trying to find out more about the station, but there isn't much on their webpage yet, though you can stream the broadcast from there (Welcome to Streets96.com New Jersey #1 Online Station for Hip Hop Reggae, R&B and Club/House Music.) but it's obviously not Disco/Dance intensive and It's not like we really need another Hip Hop station in the Tri-State area.....
We'll see where it goes.![]()
