What the...! first time I heard of this news.

I bought so many records from Vinyl Mania starting from the early 1980s onward. Charlie had a great store(s) and I'm sad to see it go. I wish the article would tell why they closed down. I guess the rent in the area was getting too expensive?

It's sad but when I visited 18 months ago I was the only customer & I was in there for ages so I'm not entirely surprised. The staff were so nice & gave me news/gossip about Bobby O.(can't remember what it was though.:icon_confused: ) Apparently the village is becoming incredibly expensive to be in nowadays, even by Manhattan standards.

    This is very sad.

I haven't been there in a couple of years. Charlie is a great guy. I couldn't walk in there without spending a lot of money. He would give me free records sometimes. And he would track down records I was looking for.

In fact, before I found this website, I went there to have songs identified.

I'm sorry I missed the end. I think I'll walk by later this week.

wow, sad news, more than half of my record collection is from that store. I stopped in last year and had a great time talking with Charlie and caught up with my old friend Judy that used to do the mail order. lots of wonderful memories for me.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it closed because of the rents. No place in NYC is safe from becoming a sterilized millionaire's trendy paradise.:icon_evil:

I would easily credit this store for assisting in breaking so many Power Boulevard Records stateside...and Charlie and his people were marvelous too.

    I agree 100%, Vince!

I've been a supporter of Charlie's services for the past, 25 years.

    Plus, he's a great friend!

WOW...that's sad. I guess I'm becoming a DINOSAUR after all. Vynlmania was one of my favorite record stores too, along with Downstairs Records. The funny thing about Downstairs Records was the fact that you actually had to go UPSTAIRS to get to the store!!! Never could figure that one out.Vynlmania shutting down is just as bad as when Jimmy's Music World & The Wiz closed their doors. 'NUFF SAID

Please keep this in mind folks, even though it's not @ the same location on Carmine St., it still operates out of Downtown 161.

Great to see vinyl come back @ Downtown161. After reading some of the earlier post it is still sad to see it go from it's original location on Carmine St. (as far as I know).

My first visit to Vinylmania was when Prince just released 1999 and they were talking about DMSR as the killer track. Do you guys remember the uptown location also? What street was that? was it amsterdam? and let us not forget Charlie's brother Richie who had the Rock/New Wave store down the street and the CD store across the street came along later. Boy they really had it going on.

After I spent loads of money in the 80's at all their locations I went to Charlie and he bought back my collection in the early 90's. He actually came over my house for that.

I had good times their buying records and eating pizza at joe's pizza.

Do you know if House Of Oldies is still there on Carmine St. (near MacDougal)? I haven't been there in about five years.
