    ARCHIE BELL & THE DRELLS

    Hi everyone,

I need help making a decision regarding this group. I want to buy "Let's Groove" (which I really love and "Tighten' Up" which is enjoyable. The problem is that I don't want to spend $16.99 + tax (Greatest Hits cd) for two songs. I'm not familiar with most of the other songs and the ones that I've heard, can go unheard. I don't see it as a waste but I'm not getting my money's worth either so my question is should I buy the freakin' cd or pass??????? :-? :-? :-? :-?

P.S - Has anyone ever made that financial sacrifice just so they can have that ONE song????

    Hey Delight.
Well hun I would say pass on buying the greatest hits. It's not worth the $17 if it's not a group you're into. I've done that before and while happy to get my one or 2 songs, I knew I overpayed especially for songs that really weren't at the top of my must have list.
OK, a couple of suggestions. Check out half.com for that cd. People sell their used stuff there and I've bought a bunch of cds there at half or even lower prices. I've had very good success there.
Next option, look for compilations with those songs. Sometimes you can kill two birds with one stone by getting the songs you were looking for and a couple of other tunes that you wouldn't mind having.
That's my 2 cents babe. Let us know what you do. 8)

    Hustlebaby,

I bought a greatest hits set from Archie Bell & The Drells (from Houston, Texas) --I think it was a Rhino compilation--and it had lotsa good stuff on it. After "Tighten Up", they started doing Gamble/Huff material: "I Just Can't Stop Dancing", among others. A real gem I'd totally forgotten was "There's Gonna Be A Showdown"...."I Could Dance All Night" and "Soul City Walk" and "Let's Groove" are goodies from their Philadelphia International years.

It's all subjective...but I liked most of the tracks here and was surprised I hadn't heard more of them. They charted 21 records on the R&B charts and I checked off 19 as being on the compilation I bought. Yes I am anal.
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

By the way, I like Soul City Walk too.

And let's not forget "Strategy", my personal fav from their Philly period (a track that was sampled by Faithless to create their "Muhammad Ali" single last year - a hit in Europe).

    Archie Bell songs

Hi Hustlebaby. I'm an Archie Bell & The Drells fan and have two of their record albums "Dance You're Troubles Away" from 1975 and "Hard Not To Like It" from 1977 and some MP3s. Anyhow here are some Archie Bell & The Drells songs that I know of that I consider really good:
    I can't Stop Dancing 1968
    Tighten Up 1968
Let's Groove 1975 (This one is THE BEST!!! 8) )
    Soul City Walk 1975
Everybody Have A Good Time 1976 (This one is FANTASTIC!)
    Disco Fever 1977

Earlier today, I found a compilation on CD NOW for $17.98 and a vinyl price for $19.49. Here's the lineup:

1.Got To Be Real - Cheryl Lynn
    2.Act Like You Know - Fat Larry's Band :-?
    3.Payback - James Brown
4.Hold Me Tighter In The Rain - Billy Griffin :-?
    5.Runaway Love - Linda Clifford
    6.Back In Stride - Maze
    7.Didn't Know About Love(Til I Met You) - Lenny White :-?
8.People Make The World Go Round - The Stylistics
    9.Party Down (Part 1) - Little Beaver Hale :-? :-?
    10.Party Down (Part2) - LBH :-? :-?
    11.LET'S GROOVE - Archie Bell & The Drells :P :P
12.You Can't Change That - Ray Parker Jr.
    13.Over & Over - Sylvester
    14.Make My Dreams A Reality - GQ :-?

I'm not sure about this compilation so I'm gonna listen to "Soul City Walk" etc.... and make my decision from there. But I must get "LG", its on my must have list.

    Hi HustleBaby,

    Check this out:

    http://www.cduniverse.com/sresult.as...cart=130859347

They've got the same Tightening It Up/Greatest Hits cd for $13.99 instead of $17.99 AND the remastered Philly greatest hits CD for $10.49.
