Anyone know the lyrics to "Down To Love Town" by the Originals? What's the lyric after "I'm gonna dust off my blank blank blank blank blank blank"? I've always thought it sounded like "heart with my handkerchief" but that doesn't make any sense, does it?

Also, does anyone know the origin of the title "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"? Was this a slogan for an organization (Boy Scouts, etc.)? Or was it used as as slogan after the song came out? I've always thought it was from some charitable group, but I can't seem to find any info. Anyone know or is it just a song title?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Bro!

"I'm gonna dust off my --- --- my happy shoes." I can't get that first word or two and I pitched it way down. When it comes to snagging lyrics, I'm like Leanmean. I'll hear anything I need to until somebody tells me otherwise.

On the "HAHHMB", I don't have a clue. I just remember the song from way back when. I always thought it was a "60's Thing", you know... Love, Peace & Happiness, hippies embracing all mankind, brotherly love --- whatever.

It so happens I had this one handy and just gave it a new spin, he says “I’m gonna dust off my heart and happy shoes and find someone to help me loose this blues” “I’m taking my body down to love town” believe or not this is one of my favorites and I never paid close attention to the lyrics on this song, I like it better now!

Like Nick said, I believe the second part is related to the 60’s brotherhood spirit, The flower Gen helping each other etc, he’s not heavy (burden) because we are all brother and sisters. At least that’s the meaning I always read into that line. I’m sure somebody else can explain it better than me.

"Down To Love To Love Town" had to be one of the great disco songs...I had mentioned earlier how much I like how it was used in THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY.

"He ain't heavy, etc..." was the tag line used in solicitations for Father Flanagan's Boys Town. I believe the quote made its way into the film as well. The original quote is taken from a picture of a waif carrying his brother through a snowstorm and appearing at the door of Boy's Town. When asked if his brother is heavy to carry, "He ain't heavy, he's my brother." is his rejoinder.

I imagine the Hollies meant to invoke this image again with their 60s hit.

Thank-you to Nicky, Mixmachine & Goddess Boodikka,

    Father Flanagan's Boy's Town!!!!

That's what I was trying to remember. I knew there was an organization that used that phrase. Thanks so much.

"I'm gonna dust of my heart and my happy shoes" Who knew? Of course, now it makes sense.

    Thanks all.

    Hi fellas,

about The Hollies hit "He Ain't Heavy...", the guy playing piano on this record is Elton John. My favorite recording of this song is the one made by the immortal Donny Hathaway on his second album.

    Peace,
