I did play this on a Spring 7" at the time. I've always been a Garland Green fan, he did put some good stuff out on R.C.A after he left Spring.

This is something like a First Choice composition , same fullness ... but this has just the guys a singin' and a partying on this one. :icon_razz::icon_cool:
Full throttle joyfullness: horns, bongos, strings , and guitar all lead by stick slappin' clappin' ....a relentless bongo-ing energy with a bit of a Gloria Gaynor gallop.
Spoken intro :
(over a male humming and assorted crowd noise) : Hurry Hurry Hurry! The Garland Green Show is about to begin. If you haven't got your ticket , you can't get in. Standing room only.
I'm sorry it's all sold out ....it's all sold out. Stand back please .
What they doing!????

drum roll as the
Background Fellas merrily jump in :
"Bumpin' and a stompin'... Stompin' and a bumpin'...
Bumpin' and a stompin' ... Stompin' and a bumpin" ....
Bumpin' and a stompin' ....Stompin' and a bumpin'
Bumpin' and a stompin' ....Stompin' and a bumpin' (over ongoing humming)
best line:
I'm soaking wet from head to toe
I'm funky as a bull and I still want to go :icon_cool: :icon_cool: :icon_cool:
funking and a stomping and moving and grooving
humping and bumping I like it like that
Background fellas: I like it like that
Garland: Oh, I like it like it like it
Background fellas: I like it like that , like it like that
Final lines : Everybody! hey ay ay! All over this land. In LA.
New York City: ... (male answers "Hi!") ... I'll catch you on the way .... to Augusta G-A ... then to Mississippi Hey! Let this car go down ....

Garland Green had a pop hit with "Jealous Kind Of Fella" which made the Top 20 in late 1969. It's worth checking out.
"Everyone knows the real reason why you got that part it was the time you spent on that casting couch"--Antoine Merriwether
"Excuse me, Miss Thing, but both of us spent time on that couch"--Blaine Edwards
I have a Cd of that original 1969 Garland Green album and its mega rare now and well worth any cost spent. Very soulful vocals and distinct production.
Tony I'm proud of ya !!:icon_biggrin:
You obviously didn't play it based on any chart !!! Hope it was well received ....:icon_cool: Too bad it was only a three minute song ....
I've been hooked now for several days .... Has that "uplifting" early disco sound I like .... like the Trammps .... Fanatastic Four ...

garland actually had 4 spring releases in 75, 3 got plays where i clubbed.
though i like bumpin and stompin better is 'sending my best wishes' [pre bumpin] and class of class post bumpin was 'just loving you':icon_razz:
ive not re-checked but im sure 'sending my best wishes' did make a brief appearance on markys chart, do you remember marky?
the only one to get a u.k release was bumpin and stompin
About 1990 Garland was booked to appear at the Southport Dance & Soul Weekender over here. Alex the promotor asked a friend of mine to pick Garland up from his hotel in London and bring him up to Southport "nr. Liverpool". The problem was that Garland wore a full Indian chiefs headress plus a cowboy outfit, and he wanted to sightsee as well. My friend walked about four foot behind him (I'm not with him)

Well I'd already thought BUMPIN" AND STOMPIN' was a guys song written about and sung for the guys .... ......then this Village People garb wearing story .... had me thinking.: "hmmm"
...but I see in the late eighties he finally got married .....
...... that didn't stop him from his dressing up like a cowboy/Indian ( !!!?!!!) in his spare time it seems .....
2 more songs: that're even better! :icon_cool: ... great!DISCODISC:

I found that i have "Bumpin' And Stompin'" on a comp. lp along with his version of "Let the Good Times Roll" it's called "Get Down With Spring Records" on U.K. Polydor. Looking at the sleeve notes it probably came out 78/79. Also on the lp. are the Fatback Band - Joe Simon - Millie Jackson - Phillip Mitchell - Ronnie Walker - Mainstreeters.
