I'm new to disco music and need help

I'm looking for the names of good disco albums from the 70's and 80's, which have been released on CD, I would prefer that they were not compilations of different artists.

    Hey mate,

Here are some good starting points:

Don Ray - Garden Of Love
    Cerrone - Supernature
    Gwen Guthrie - Padlock
    Grace Jones - Nightclubbing
    D-Train - You're The One For Me

They're just some albums of the top of my head.

See plenty more Disco CDs here. Many with member reviews.

I know you say you're not interested in compilation CD's so I'll just list some of the artists that are available either as "album by album" releases or very complimentary "Greatest Hits" releases IMHO, but I think you're doing yourself a great disservice, to not be willing to invest in some of the exceptional compilation collections out there, like the Magnum Opus and Grand 12inches collections, or just about any Salsoul or Prelude records compilation:icon_sad:

Chic - Chic, C'est Chic, Risque, Real People
Change - Glow of Love, Miracles, Sharing Your Love, Change of Heart
S.O.S. Band - S.O.S, Too, S.O.S Band III, On The Rise, Just The Way You Like It, Sands of Time
Cameo - Cameosis, Secret Omen, She's Strange, Single Life, Word Up
    T-Connection - Magic, T-Connection
Alec Costandinos - Romeo & Juliet, Winds of Change
Festival - Don't Cry for Me Argentina
    Rainbow Brown - Rainbow Brown
Inner Life - Inner Life 1 & 2, Caught up in a one Night Love Affair
    Cloud One - Atmosphere Strut

that's all I can get out right now.....

It's hard to give recommendations because I don't know your taste. :icon_confused: The entire Chic catalog is now on CD courtesy of WEA and Wounded bird's new pressings. That may be a solid starting point. Some Cds are becoming tough to find as CD sales are in decline. I would say go to amazon.com and type in your favorite artists and use the cookies (others who have searched this page have bought-). There are lists that fans make and can be accessed when you search artists in that specific genre.

Your're right to some extent about compilations. If you want full lenght versions just check the time lenght at all music guide. Many Rhino compilations use truncated versions.:icon_twisted: There are however several decent compilations and songs that are only on compilations as Qdearl noted.

qdearl's list is excellent with a broad range of styles.
Since you are new, I would still recommend a compilation of various artist because you may get a better feel for the kind of sound you really like. Different artists as evidenced by qdearl's list brought there own interpretation of the disco experience.

I'd stick to original Lps with Shalamar because a couple of US Greatest hits featured truncated versions of major hits.
