Can damaged record sleeve spines be repaired?

I was wondering if the spines of record covers can be repaired?
I would think clear tape would be a big no no.
Im talking about the damage the vinyl record does to the cover from hitting the spine of the cover from inside.

Well, since there's no way to un-tear a piece of paper, I would think not. And yes, adhesive tape is bad; it will eventually dry out and stain the sleeve or ooze out gummy residue that will do more damage.
