Some more vinyl (with Dec 02 new buys)

    Here's my latest founds:

    -L.T.D. - Shine on (1980)
    -GIORGIO & CHRIS - Love's in you, love's in me (1978)
-THE TRAMMPS - Disco Inferno (1977)
-CHANGE - The glow of love (1980)
-GARY'S GANG - Keep on dancin' (1979)
-PEOPLE'S CHOICE - We got the rhythm (1976)
-THE PLAYERS ASSOCIATION - Turn the music up! (1979)
-PATRICK JUVET - Lady night (1979)
-AMY BOLTON - Do me a favor (1980)
    -GQ - Disco nights (1979)
    -FRENCH KISS - Panic! (1979)

One interesting thing: the GQ album has, in addition to the "Disco nights (rock freak)" hit, their own -and quite good- version of "Boogie oogie oogie".
The Players Association LP has many known session musicians behind it: Bob Berg, Michael Brecker, Jon Faddis, Steve Khan, Mtume, etc. It contains versions of Chic's "Everybody dance" and Stevie Wonder's "I wish". Plus a female model in the cover that ranks, like, number ONE in her category!!! 8) Here I go, baby!!!
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

Results of this afternoon at the fair ( marks records whose songs I don't remember or haven't heard... Any comments will be welcome)

-MFSB - Let's clean up the ghetto (1977)
    -CERRONE - Cerrone's Paradise (1977)
-KAREN CHERYL - Sing to me mama/Sweet melody (1979) - don't know it that "title" was added for the local edition
-BILLY PAUL - Let 'em in (1976)
-BILLY PAUL - First class (1979)
    -VOGGUE - Angela & Chantal (1982)
    -PEOPLE'S CHOICE - Boogie down USA (1975)
-INSTANT FUNK - Witch doctor (1979)
-THE BROTHERS JOHNSON - Blam! (1978)
-FRANCE JOLI - France Joli (1979) - the one that contains "Come to me" (this I buyed on your reccomendation, fellas!)
-TAVARES - In the city (1975)
-DONNA SUMMER - Once upon a time (1977)
-DONNA SUMMER - Bad girls (1979) - the local version with the censored cover - details in a separated thread
-AMII STEWART - Paradise bird (1979)
-A TASTE OF HONEY - A Taste of Honey (1978)
    -VOYAGE - Fly away (1978)

Apparently the MFSB record is an original PIR compilation, but AllMusic.com does not mention it; includes the title song, "TSOP" and a version of "Superfly". The cover is light yellow with a photo of a wet girl shaking off the water.

Well, of the ones I've heard...

    -CERRONE - Cerrone's Paradise (1977)
Love this one, especially "Take Me". BTW, does the cover have a shot of Cerrone in some hideous shirt (as released in North America), or the original European cover of him standing next to a naked woman reclining on a bar fridge?

-INSTANT FUNK - Witch doctor (1979)
Not bad from what I recall, but it didn't really stick with me. I should probably give this one another listen soon.

-THE BROTHERS JOHNSON - Blam! (1978)
Excellent. You just can't go wrong with The Brothers. And to think of all those times that I danced to Blackbox's "Strike It Up", not knowing that the "YEAH!" was sampled from this album.

-FRANCE JOLI - France Joli (1979) - the one that contains "Come to me" (this I buyed on your reccomendation, fellas!)

Quite good overall. Perhaps Tony Green's best production.

-DONNA SUMMER - Once upon a time (1977)
Excellent. Despite the fact that it had no major hits, this is her best album overall. It's one of the few disco concept albums that actually works. The story is believable and it's not just the usual fluff. Act II is my favourite.

-DONNA SUMMER - Bad girls (1979) - the local version with the censored cover - details in a separated thread
Less cohesive than "Once...", but had three massive hits on it. One of the biggest-selling LPs of the 1970s.

-AMII STEWART - Paradise bird (1979)
I love the title track, which is a very nice ballad. Amii is actually a lot better at ballads than belting out dance tunes. The rest of the LP is somewhat forgettable IMHO.

-A TASTE OF HONEY - A Taste of Honey (1978)
Pretty good. I still love "Boogie Oogie Oogie", although it should be noted that they were really an R&B act and not disco. Unfortunately, they are only remembered for that and their cover of "Sukiyaki" (which was really titled "I Look Up When I Walk", but anyway).

    -VOYAGE - Fly away (1978)
Excellent. Disco doesn't get any better than "Souvenirs".

Absolutely. This guy had a way with covers! :D Must have seen Hipgnosis' then hip work on prog records and thought "I can do that..."

Hi Sirius: the commentary on "Bad girls" censored cover is actually mine. More details in a new thread titled "Censorship on disco".
