Remicks dear chap, your edukashun is somewhat lacking if you've never heard of Francine McGee's Delerium. A place at 700 (way below all that Euro shite that Jussik managed to hype into more hallowed positions:icon_rolleyes: :icon_lol: ) for records as good as this one (with many, many other gems not in there at all) was one reason why I was soooo critical of the Top 700 list.
You MUST get hold of a copy either on vinyl or CD. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!
It is an absolute blinder of a track - personally I'd swap its position with that Romeo & Juliet track (that lives deep in one of my crates at the back of the cupboard) any day of the week, which I play about once a year as I can never remember it then put it away again as I'd never play it out or on any of my shows!
It sells for loads on eBay too. If you can't get hold of Delirium then Feelin' Good (which was the A side) is the same track but without some extra elements.

“Delirium/Feel’in good” is a very nice track I always enjoyed, more so now, worth seeking out and owning, but in general, not a very popular track, I’d say that with all the music available out there this cut is lucky to be included in the 700 list at all, I read it was popular in the UK , maybe that’s why it charted, but even though I bought and played this record, as “Delirium” I didn’t even remember this song at all after first reading about it here years ago, I was more familiar with the A side’s counterpart.
As far as I know this cut was never released retail on a USA label, and therefore it was mainly known to those actively looking for new club music at the time, (Djs, collectors, hard core music lovers) the majority of your average record shopping “Joe” would never pay top dollar premium for an 12” import single, especially in 1977, and therefore it was bypassed and forgotten.
Locally, from what I can remember this cut was considered “High Energy” (132bpm) music from Canada (RCA- KPNI-0246), one of the many import dance floor filler that for the most part were mainly duds at the time, in this case the lackluster/plain sound lacking any proper clever “hook” to draw in the dancing masses of the day (except for the few that liked the Jazzy side of Disco)was probably the culprit in it’s weak acceptance/performance, this song sounds much better now, especially on your home stereo, but as I remember , from a DJ's point of view , (depending on the Club) one better ‘sandwiched’ this type of song between better known cuts or risk losing your floor..
Both sides are basically instrumentals jams that should mainly appeal to the obscure hard core Disco collector/connoisseur, the song features a heavy bass line and jazzy synths with some rock-ish guitars licks thrown in there, the mid way break is best described as “average” and short for the time, including the un-inspiring usual dry four on the floor beat followed by Latin congas, claves, and other Latin percussion instruments (maracas??).
In the past some poster around the forum called the A side the “drunk Diva” vocal side, but I always liked the vocal “Feel’in good” A side better, it is true the vocals are weak and consist of nothing more than “I’m feeling good”, “I want to love you” and “Love me” sexy chants, but in my view this limited vocals add a welcome layer to this song lacking on the “Delirium” side that makes it more palatable for my taste.
I suspect this cut in resent years has become a collectors favorite precisely because of it’s obscurity, scarcity and lack of “dance floor” attention, as far as I remember this cut had a very short and un-eventful Dance floor existence in the US back in the day, at least in my area.
I bought my copy when it first came out in a local specialty DJ store on 11.04.77
Francine McGee : Delirium 12 inch single
I'm surprised this cut did well in the UK at all, especially since there is not even a glance of Soul or Funk in here.
I supposed it was because of the over all Jazzy feel, especially the instrumental "Delirium" side, but to hear any Brits, especially Quinny praising a 132 bpm "galloping record more suited to the US anyway" is perplexing after all I've read around here about the UK club scene..
What can I say? This track just took off in a frenzy of excitement and was a mainstay of many a dancefloor in the UK for a very long time...ending up only just short of anthem status. If you wanted me to pin it down to any one thing I couldn't do so, but if push came to shove, all I can say is that despite it's boring top layer of sounds, the overall package just seemed to offer something that was different. I NEVER played the vocal side until about 3 years ago. In fact, I didn't even know it was the vocal of 'Delerium' (or had totally forgotten) until that very same time!
As for a galloping 132 BPM (actually 131) record and UK acceptance....We played many a galloping record. What we tended not to do was fall hook, line and sinker for it, especially the Euro/Big Orchestral/sweet sound, that the US fell in love with.
Either way, I'd still tell anyone looking for cookin' Disco trax to get hold of it.
huge track! personally i love the vocal version as well, but it was the instrumental side that really took off. even back in the day it was a standout track, because there were not too many songs that sounded like this one. I put this up there with "Los Conquistadores Chocolates" by Johnny Hammond, another jazz disco track that always blows me away.
Definately an upfronter. Seems to always keep it's place in my 20% section, you know the 20% you play 80% of the time:icon_razz: . Hey Remicks....we will give it a spin on your next visit![]()

It is wonderful :icon_biggrin: .....and totally shortchanged at #700 ...although had I contributed to the voting back then .....
I'd have made no mention of it either ...:icon_redface::icon_sad:
:icon_cool:
By the way I regret not expressing appreciation for the thoughtful replies to those who did so back when it would have mattered .![]()

Remicks
Glad you finally got to hear this gem of a track! and that you like it...last place is rather unbefitting for this piece of disco jazz brilliance.

remicks, I missed this original post. Seeing the participants above, well I miss them too.
Anyway the tracks are nice. I never heard them before unless they were used as filler songs (at least thats I call songs between more popular songs) in the clubs.
That said, I can see why they were missed. They are not especially memorable. I have a couple of songs that I like that I'd put in the same category as well.
The songs are better than a few on that 700 list.
Find them and destroy them!
