    Nona Hendryx Disco tracks

Can anyone recommend some good disco/dance tracks by Nona Hendryx ? i am not very familar with her recording career. I do have a good album from 1987 produced by dan Hartman. What about her earlier recordings ?

WOW! Nona!! I love her FIERCE vocals and persona, almost like a rockified Grace Jones!
    My faves:
I Sweat (Going thru the motions)
Bustin Out (with the group Material)
    Why should I Cry
Do What You Wanna Do (with the group Cage, a cover of a T-Connection song)
Transformation (written with Carole Pope/Kevan Staples aka Rough Trade, an influential Canadian New Wave band in late 70's/early 80's)

**Nona should've been WAAAAY more popular...She's one Amazing Talent!!***
    Miss Labelle WHO? hahaha!!!
    we can fly...above the sky...

You just have to listen to her 2nd solo album ; the fabulous NONA [RCA 1983].

It opens with B-BOYS [with the very familiar KASHIF synth-bassline],KEEP IT CONFIDENTIAL [again with KASHIF and also NILE RODGERS on guitars].
TRANSFORMATION with SLY DUNBAR [Very GRACE JONES sounding] and also
DESIGN FOR LIVING with its all female cast [LAURIE ANDERSON,VALERIS SIMPSON,NANCY WILSON [from HEART],TINA WEYMOUTH and GINA SCHOCK from the GO-GO's].

I recently bought it again on vinyl to transfer it to CD.

my favorite Nona Hendryx recordings are: "Keep it Confidential" (a very intense pop/r and b Kashif-style number), "Why Should I Cry?" (recorded with Janet Jackson's associates and guess who it sounds like?), "Busting Out" (recorded with the avant-garde jazz collective known as Material) and "Female Trouble" (I'm probably mistaken but is this the song with the cutting lyric "Standing in line for your love is asking TOO much!")

I had forgotten about the WHY SHOULD I CRY ? 12inch.
I had the straight up extended version but its BOO HOO mix by JAM & LEWIS is vastly improved.

    It's worth searching for.

That is a great track on the album. Sometimes her music comes across as "borderline "rock....
Its seems a pity she has not had more sucess as she is a far better vocalist than patti Labelle (IMO)

    Yes she is.
I also remembered ; she had a great uptempo rock/funk track off the HARD TO HOLD soundtrack [a RICK SPRINGFIELD movie in 84].
The song is called HEART OF A WOMAN ; and it's a POINTER SISTERS type of rock/funk hybrid.

Count me in as another Nona fan.. I remember when I was looking for Grace Jones records, I'd flip across Nona's albums and pull them out thinking they were Grace albums. One day I just decided to give her a try and buy one of them..

My favourite albums are "Nona" from '83 and "The Art Of Defense" from '84.. The latter seems to have a bit of a bum rap, but I really love the sparse, minimalist groove on it..

Apparently she released some disco singles on Arista in the late '70s between her first album (very much in the rock vein) and the Nona LP.. I haven't heard them, but so far I've only come across UK/European 7" singles of them. The fan that runs this website doesn't have too many good things to say about them though..
