I've been looking for this song for 23 years now. I'm getting a bit tired of it!

I heard it in 1984 on Radio Luxemburg. The title should be "Highway man" but I'm not sure. Don't google for "Highway man" or look for it in the online stores. I've done that already, many times.
This is too rare and old for a record store, but I'm hoping that someone recognizes the (great) voice or even the tune.

The quality is somewhat poor. Sorry.

The vocal sounds to me a lot like Paul Weller when he was doing The Style Council stuff. I was a big fan of the group at the time, but don't recognise this song I'm afraid. They did do a house album in the late 80s which never got released at the time, it could be a track off there. Sorry can't help more with the quality not being so good I can't tell 100%

The sound is similar and the voice too but the sample voice is darker and probably "black". Also Weller has more of a british accent while the sample shows an obvious US accent, not being 100% sure though. In another forum someone suggested some philly soul artist without a specific name.
This is really a mystery because to me this tune has hit status for the 80's and the voice could belong to the best soul voices available.
Anyone being good at US accents? Is this southern or northern? Western or eastern?

Also I'm not 100% sure of the refrain: is it "highway man" or something else? Though "highway man" fits well into the rest of the story he delivers. Could also be "stand and deliver" as he shouts it just before "highway man", but I've looked for that title all over the net and the world too... :icon_sad:
