I've come to the awful realization that I really like what I call "Lounge Lizard" disco, that is, romantic, string-laden, melodic disco. Yes, it may be campy and kitschy, and it is probably stuff that would clear a dance floor even BITD, yet it's still part of our disco "heritage", if you will. Some of my examples are:
Love is in the Air- John Paul Young
Begin the Beguine- Julio Iglesias (near-disco)
When Love is New-Arthur Prysock
Love Story- Andy Wiliams
Begin the Beguine- Johnny Mathis
Volare (70's version)- Al Martino
Summer Place 76- Percy Faith
Don't Cry for Me Argentina- Tom Jones
and a lot of the Barry White songlist.
Any more I should be on the lookout for?
**Is there a reason that all these kitschy songs are sung by MEN???**
we can fly...above the sky...
Another one is Let's Try Once Again by Patrick Norman...a Canadian release...
"Your baggage is ready and the tickets are too...ooh...ooh
You're ready to leave me as you promised to-ooo"
....real cocktail-in-hand, disco schmaltz!:icon_biggrin:
I don't know...Patsy Gallant's hits are pretty kitschy as well (hmmmm....another Canadian.....) and I might catch a bit of hell for saying this but I always thought Cher's Take Me Home was borderline kitsch too.
don't forget:
THIS IS MY LIFE--Shirley Bassey
COPACABANA --Barry Manilow or Shirley Bassey
