I just found me a copy of "A woman needs love" by Ray Parker Jr. and Raydio -one of my favorite bands of its kind- and as always I'm surprised to discover too-long forgotten tracks besides the hits "Still in the groove", "It's your night" and the title slow classic.
There's another ballad I danced to in the old days and absolutely remember now that I hear it again after 20-so years. It's called "Old pro". Also the first track in side 2, "You can't fight what you feel", wakes up memories of dancing in Mar del Plata near the beach. Ah, those times when I had hair! :icon_redface:

Ray Parker was pretty popular for a while there. I remember his productions for Diana Ross, Cheryl Lynn and New Edition, among others. But I don't remember hearing much from him after that embarrassing lawsuit over "GhostBusters".Originally Written by Nano

That must have been great. I went to MAR DEL PLATA in 1988 and I'll never forget it till the day I die. It is the most beautiful city I've visited. Then I went to Bariloche, which is terrific, but comes nowhere near Mar Del Plata. I had a walkman and kept listening to Sade & Swing Out Sister which by then were beginning their carrears. Whenever I listen to Sade today, I remember MAR DEL PLATA.
I love costal towns. I need to check Ibiza, Formentera and Mallorca in Spain.

Now really, it's my city so I wouldn't criticize it... But so many people in Argentina (including MDP) dream of the beaches in Brazil! And justifiably so.
I guess we want what we don't have...

I know Nano, but the beaches here are tropical (specially those in the northeast of Brazil). Mar Del Plata is not. It has a ''cold seas'' vibe which is fantastic. Not to mention the buildings and mansions above the shore-line. It is a diffrent type of beach. I would gladly live in MDP.

I was last week!
I moved to Buenos Aires in 1993 for work reasons and still live there. I got to love-hate Buenos Aires, which means I really love this city. The same thing goes for Mar del Plata. Of course they're very different. In fact, I think I had to leave MDP to understand it better. I visit my family from time to time.
The best time for vacation in MDP is December, when there are not so many people but it's warm already. In the last years they made some retouches to the coastline and now it's more beautiful than ever. Living there makes you enjoy the winter, where you really have the city all for yourself. There are neighborhoods that go almost empty, which adds some melancholy feeling, and the wind blows.
However, the citizens still depend too much of tourism and there is poor development in other areas (industry, culture, entertainment) during the rest of the year. In fact, now it has one of the bigger unemployment rates in the country as a whole.
It's almost like an abandoned beach house, for the good and the bad. :icon_confused:
