Any Info. On Patti Jo ???

I am looking for info. on this lady artist.
Her song Make Me Belive In You is a classic, and is well known underground.
BUT considering her music lives on I can't seem to find out anything about the artist, apart from she only seems to have made two singles with Wand ????

She's a total mystery isn't she?.. The only little tidbit that I came across once was that she was around 16 when she recorded "Make Me Believe In You." I don't even remember exactly where I heard it.. I think it might have been on some interview I heard somewhere on the net..

Thanks Neon, it IS a mystery (as Toyah sang), I would believe she is 16 as she has that high girlie sound.....(much like Stock, Aitken and Waterman tried to get on their female tracks - without the song or the talent that Patti had !!)
I hope someone can shed light....To be SOOO well known...but SOOO obscure is VERY odd...:icon_rolleyes:

I have about 4 compilations with "Make Me Me Believe In You" on, but none of the sleeve notes have any information about her at all. The fisrt time i heard it was on a U.K comp on Pye records called "Disco Demands Solid Gold Sensations" all Scepter/Wand stuff released in 74' compiled by a certain Ian Levine.

Ha ! Disco Demands First incarnation....I have just bought the three Disco Demands CD's from Million Dollar Disco...
Patti's best track of the two in my opinion is Ain't no love lost...on my CD's when I get to that track I repeat it over and over.....the rest of the tracks are mute until the morning !!
I saw both 7" on ebay recently at about £300+

Didn't Curtis Mayfield produce those two recordings? Too bad nobody asked him about her before he passed away...

No sorry, I don't know much about The elusive Patti Jo.:icon_confused: I first heard about this record (Make Me Believe In You) when I read the gay disco fiction classic 'Dancer From The Dance'; (this track & the Temps' 'Law Of The Land' are I think the only tracks mentioned in the book surprisingly.) When I don't know anything about an artist my imagination runs riot at times; maybe Patti was a drag queen with her voice speeded up! Stranger things have happened.

San..I am just finishing reading this book (But I am not gay).
Yes there are a couple of others mentioned I think, BUT Patti' song is mentioned a few times :icon_razz: :icon_razz:

I was pondering on that thought myself, could it have been Curtis himself playing with the knobs a la Patrick Adams :icon_question: :icon_question:

You've got good taste; everyone should read it even if they're not gay as it's a great piece of lierature IMO. It's been a few years since I read it, I'll have to read it again to find what those other tracks were!

In "Disco Gold" liner notes...they mention "Giving Up" by Zulema in addition to the Temps & the Patti Jo tracks. The Patti Jo track is STELLAR, IMHO....one of my MAJOR DISCO DISCOVERIES--discovered post-disco...I'd never heard this before I read about it here some years ago.

Patti Jo sounds like the late Nell Carter to me---that nasal, metallic cornet sound of her voice...but it's Tom Moulton's SUPERB remix that delays the vocal til you can't stand it anymore...and then... at long last..."Ain't no man to be found".. supposedly drew SCREAMS from the crowd back in the day...this is in Dancer From The Dance.

Interesting that Melba Moore, another singer with a somewhat similar vocal sound recorded BOTH the Patti Jo tracks in later LPs..."Make Me Believe In You" and "Ain't No Love Lost"...neither comes close to PJ's versions....IMHO.

Thanks Marky, I remember that now 'cos I've never heard that track or anything by Zulema come to think of it. Is it good? Going back to Patti Jo, does anybody think that MMBIY in its Tom Moulton extended mix is similar in its long build-up & slinky beat to the Temps' 'Papa Was a Rolling Stone'?:icon_confused:

    Starsky,

    A quote from Tom Moulton:

"You know, I still to this day I want to know who Patti Jo is. <She> was somebody that Curtis Mayfield had."

Judging by this, information must truly be scarce on Patti if there is any at all.:icon_sad:

BTW - The quote is from the Six Million Steps website in their Tom Moulton mix show.
