    Hey, Give me a break

For those who like to spin, what is the most useful 12" just only breaks? I mean... only drumming and may be bassline, but not to recognize any melody.
In other words, I mean a 12" as help when you do not know how to leave the actual track during a mix! Please get back at me, I need some titles... Ciao

Well, the first one that comes to mind is T-Connection's At Midnight. You have a four-minute+ intro that is nothing but percussion.

If you're in a hard energy set, try the break from Passion's In New York. It's more than bass and drum but the melody doesn't present itself.

A tribal one would be The Natives are Restless by... ****! Who does this? Anyway, it's on the Importe/12 label. Lower energy but minimal vocal.

    I'm sure there's more. I'm going blank again. :D

    Hi Nicky,

That's another great track from Ray Martinez of Amant, Passion and Sassy fame. I'm going to have to pop this on the turntable now :-)

    Masdefi,

I remember a little 'tribal' thing on one of Gwen McCrae's albums. The cut is about one minute long and it's called Movement. Just beats and bells, no melody. The speed is about that of Herb Alpert's Rise, maybe even a little slower.

Also, years ago the JIVE label used to put out lp's titled Rhythm Tracks, I think. The cuts on the album were meant to be used as breaks... just what you're looking for. Nothing but beats, no melodies. Don't know if they or anything like that is still out there. There must be for all the hip-hoppers. :)

See my other post but don't forget: If you have it on vinyl and it's pressed at 45RPM, slow it to 33. Works just as well. I worked this under the classic Trinidad as well as Sam & Dave's Hold On I'm Comin', and others. Nobody cares, it's just percussion. :D
