FJF,
Good topic that I thought should be on its own (hence the moved post).
If you are after 7" versions of Disco songs on CD then I recommend getting Disco Classics.

I'm always on the lookout for 7" vinyl versions of disco favorites. Because of the cover artwork. Or the b-sides. And because of the surprise factor. Like seeing Love Rush released as a 45. That's been the hardest for me to find.

Thanks, Bernie.
I've had better luck finding 7" imports (especially New Wave/Dance.) I have a 7" picture disc of Nipple To The Bottle that I treasure. But I'm especially interested to see domestic 7" singles of rarer disco. Ones that record companies thought would have a chance at crossing over to Top 40 radio. I think that's part of the thrill.

I like digging up 7 inch singles that have versions of songs not found on the LP or 12" mix. Examples include:
Faith Hope & Charity - Life Goes On (long version on the 7" is a unique mix. Even the short version is a different mix from any other version).
Four Seasons - Who Loves You (extended 'disco version' on the B side)
Various singles on Vibration, Stang, etc... - Sylvia Robinson's labels - where the flip is an instrumental mix exclusive to the 45.
Barry White's various singles, which also featured instrumental flip sides.
Disco Funk
I sometimes prefer the edited 7" versions to the long versions. Herbie Hancock's 'I Thought It Was You' being an example that springs to mind.
...ya gotta beat the street......
Herbie Hancock's releases always sounded better on 7" to me, the 12" seem to go on & on.In the 70's i bought a hell of a lot Disco 7" i have about 500 in my computer room alone.Grabbing a nearby handfull i have.
M.F.S.B - "To Be In Love"
Tamiko Jones - "Let It Flow"
Bill Brandon - "Fell In Love While Dancing"
Silver Bird - "Save Me"
Love Unlimited Orch. - "Satin Soul"
Juggy Jones - "Inside America"
Mongo Santamaria - "Lady Marmalade"
Eddie Kendricks - "Get The Cream Off The Top"
I'd forgotten about the Silver Bird / Silver Convention connection but i hope it is valuable! It's on U.S.Midland International 74' written by Silvester Levay & Stephan Prager produced by Michael Kunze.

I've got tons of 7" from the Disco years, ( even more since lately I saved a couple of collections from the land fill:icon_sad:) many Disco Hits I bought two copies for DJ mixing, either because that's what was available only or because I couln't find or sometimes afford the 12" at first. (they used to sell for one dollar).
For me there is still a certain magic when I hold a 7" record, don't know why, in any case they are sometimes invaluable when tracing the origins of certain songs that were only released on 7" or on obscure small labels first.
Here is a unique mix of this song only found on this 7" , (recently reminded by Quinny in other old postings). I also sumited a few others to the vault I considered rare. Are they Valuable?? I think they are not as desirable as 12" versions, but they are valuable to me
Lipstick =Part II
here are a few interesting/unique early club rare original ones in the vault.

Rare on the Fania label, a Latin NYC Salsa label.

The equals

Lady, Lady, Lady
Huge hit at the time, with the dancers.
Peace and Love
One of my all time fave.
Chocolate Boys-El Bimbo

Ultra High Frequency
Original lenth release before the Moulton Mix.
Original release of Helplessly by Moment of truth on Roulette instead of Salsoul.
Liquid Pleasure- Take a little
very rare long Disco version only available here. AFAIK.
Mixmachine it's great that you gave LTG Exchange a namecheck i've always loved their stuff i still have "Corazon" "Waterbed" & "Keep On Trying" on 7". I sold my copy of the Boogie Man Orch.on UK Contempo for crazy money (£40) about 5 years ago and after all that time i found a copy in a record fair about 6 months ago for £2.
I only found that "Corazon" by LTG a few years back, I always had the 12" version, I think I also have the Fania "Waterbed",
The "Boogie Man's "Lady" was very popular in Miami, I've got several copies in different Quality levels that I got from different collections.
Do you know anything about the "Boogie Man Orchestra???
Were they from the UK??? The Singer is Mel Hayes, I always thought maybe He was Issac Hayes Brother, they sound similar :icon_cool: but I don't know for sure.
Disco Funk I didn't know "Who loves you" Disco version was only available on 7", I've got it around here, funny how I like it better now than BITD when I felt it was to 'bubble gum' :icon_rolleyes:Faith Hope & Charity - Life Goes On (long version on the 7" is a unique mix. Even the short version is a different mix from any other version).
Four Seasons - Who Loves You (extended 'disco version' on the B side)
I need to see about that FHC single, I don't even remember the song..:icon_redface:
If you remember any other exclusive mix only on 7" post it here, please, I don't know how you can remember all this details...:icon_confused: but I'm glad you do
PS: IMO. It is a miracle any 7" still survive to this day, as your average buyer used to abuse them and treated them as disposable items :icon_sad::icon_rolleyes:
According to te British Blues and Soul magazine the act is American. "..they spent all the money on production and none in hiring a composer". Well, the B&S even trashed Pretty Maid Company so what did they ever know! :-)
Incidentally, I'll be doing an exhibition of eyeopening covers of disco seveninchers next July in an art space here - it's high time to hang Gretchen, Luv, Peter Moesser and company up where they belong.
Blues & Soul magazine actually owned the Contempo label that the Boogie Man Orch. was released on. You would of thought they would have given it a glowing review.
Hello Disco collectors!
This weekend I had the pleasure of record hunting with my new friend Remicks. He kind of turned me on to searching for 7" Disco records on this hunt. I must admit that collecting 7's was never a priority for me, but after this weekend I might be motivated. I'll let Remicks tell the story, but boy did he do well. I think he picked up about 30 7's. The one 7 that he found that got me going was an AVI white lable promo of R&L's Blue Steel......over 6mins long:icon_razz: We also found the Four Seasons 7. He was nice enough to let me keep that one. Definately cool to see and hear the differnt versions the 7" single have to offer.
Happy hunting to all.

Can't believe I missed this thread before. Theres one 7" that I have in my collection that I have and always wondered about. It's the CJ & Co. "Devil's Gun". Is this a rarity?
"Devil's Gun" isn't really rare as it was a big track at the time. If you ever see the "Devils Gun" Lp. snap it it, it's got some killer mixes on it.
I've got several of the prelude 7" from 79-83. I think the 7" versions often are great mixes that I sometimes prefer prior to the 12".
