I remember Propaganda though I don't know the song you mention. They had a real nice club hit with Your Wildlife and a sleazy number in Heaven Give Me Words. This had to be 1990 or 1991. What year did Dr. Mabuse get released?

    ...

"Dr. Mabuse" from Propaganda came out on 1984. I think it is the first hit from Propaganda, if I remember well. Then they came out with "Duel" another huge success here. If you will see one day "Dr. Mabuse" in a shop, pick it up, it is worth to buy it! But pay attention, just the 12" has a great break inside.
    Ciao, Nicky!

Hi Masdefi. I actually mentioned 'Dr.Mabuse' on my list of early 80's stuff recently. I think I described it as 'Euro power pop' (so I did describe it & didnt just list it as many people here do!).
It is a brilliant track isnt it? Propaganda were a German group but this gem was produced by the UK's own Trevor Horn of ABC & Frankie Goes to Hollywood fame. He's got to be one of the best record producers of all time IMHO! The production on this track is breath-taking. Why don't current records sound this good?

You're right. This track is unique. I remember when was spinned in the club, the DJ was entering with this one just in the middle-break and come out with FGTH "Two tribes", what a feeling!
Where is now that feeling? :(

    Propaganda

    Hi y'all

If you like Dr. Mabuse then you should really listen to the extended version of P-Machinery, a track that imho is as intrigueing and fascinating as Dr. Mabuse........

The people at ZTT also produced a nice remix album with material of the "Secret Wish" album they called "Wishful thinking, disturbdances of 5 songs by Propaganda " on which the songs got pretty disturbed indeed but a must-listen for fans :)

Yes i own the 'Wishful Thinking' remix CD & I must admit to being disappointed with it, but then again I'm not a fan of remixing generally, especially 80's stuff where they messed around with classy stuff for the sake of it. You just cant improve on a Trevor Horn production IMO.

    Propaganda

Good grief, where do I start.
Dr Mabuse was on ZTT, and like the FGTH trilogy, it came in a miriad of mixes!!!
This also happened to 'P.Macinery' as well.
    There are 3 cds availible in the UK with various mixes on;

    1. A secret wish (best album of 1985!!)
    Album mix
    2. Wishful thinking
    Remix album of the above.
    3. Outside world.
Collection of 12" mixes, B sides and rarities.

    All excellent albums!!

Also Razormaid (a US remix service) did remixes of Dr mabuse and P.Macinery.
There's a good DMC mix of PMachinery as well!!
The single 'Your Wildlife' came off the second studio album '1234' when they had signed to Virgin in 1990 with a slightly different line-up.
If you like Propaganda, check out ACT, featuring the former leadsinger of Propaganda, Claudia Brucken, and the solo stuff by her as well.

Classic tune and features on my 2nd Desert Island disk! (But that's another story)

The 7" features a different track to what was available on the 12"s - and 3 12" versions were released.

ZTT 12ZTAS 2 - Das Testaments Des Mabuse / Femme Fatale / The 9th Life (of Dr Mabuse)

ZTT 12ZTAS 2 (matrix 2A 2U) cover includes sticker which denotes it's the 13th new Life Remix)

ZTT 12ZTAS 2 - Mabuse (The Third Side) / Femme Fatale The Fourth Side.

Duel was also a cool tune, but lacked the power of Mabuse imho.

Bejewlled was their third release and all from 1985.

I have a spare 12" of Mabuse if anyone's interested?

    marmy

PS: Claudia Brucken also teamed up with Glen Gregory (him of Heaven 17) to record one track. "When your heart runs out of time" - ZZT 1985.

PPS: I've got 12" copies of P:Machinery (T-empo remixes) & Heaven Give Me Words (William Orbit Remix)
