What a tangled web we unweave when we try to sort out all things disco .
Henry Stone the disco collosus of TK records ........way back when, in the fifties, was one of the first to work with James Brown !!
This from Bernie's interview article with Henry Stone:
That's no small badge on honour ! And , how fitting then that by the early 80's James Brown did a few releases on TK records.Around 1955, Stone stopped distributing records to work briefly with King Records where he co-owned a label with them called Deluxe Records. One of Stone’s first big hits at Deluxe was Hearts of Stone by the Charms. It is at King where he would meet and later record James Brown with songs like Please, Please, Please.
It makes me wonder how different James Brown's output might have been if he'd been with TK earlier ... during the mid 70's when TK was hot .... instead of Polydor ... which apparently he hated.
