What a brilliant list. I see this genre of disco very much as the fore-runner of the Hi-Nrg stuff that happened in the 80's. Uplifting, melodic, fast & with commercial potential that was quite often over-looked by record companies & radio stations I feel.

That is definitely a Saint list. Also an Anvil list, the River Club, Flamingo --- the 'energy' clubs list. Alba was a fave of mine. I loved it when the guy whispered "Only music survives". Theo Vaness was a big fave at the Anvil and "Sentimentally" I always liked the best.

Nice list, Nrg. Sweet memories... :)

What a great lineup of songs, nrg!

"Love Insurance" is one of my all-time favorites (R.I.P. Sharon Redd!); it placed very high in my Top 25.

I also really like "Close Your Eyes" and "Don't Stop Your Love." I had both of these songs on DJ mix tapes and had a hell of a time finding them on vinyl. Does anyone know if either of these are particularly rare...?

"Keep Smilin'" and "Lucky Tonight" are great songs too; "Lucky Tonight" was a big hit at the after-hours club here in Pittsburgh. Like "Close Your Wyes," it was a Megatone release--so they weren't all crap!

I don't know how rare either of them are though I've seen Booker T. selling recently in both vinyl and CD. Check out dustygroove.com if you're interested.

These two songs evoke very strong emotions:

"What A Night" by Giorgio Moroder sounded amazingly innovative to me in 1979 and I fell in love with this LP instantly... I loved the way "E=mc2" album was mixed, very ingenious. This LP still in my personal top 5 Disco albums, ever.

"Only Music Survives" by Alba, 1984, Dora Carofiglio on vox. is Italo Disco classic, a great musical piece. Many italo-freaks consider Dora's voice to be the "primo" female vocal. I also love the sleeve very much.

    Nick--

Thanks for the tip, but I DID eventually find and buy both of those records on eBay. :)

    "Love Insurance" Front Page
Perhaps my all time favourite Disco track with the late Sharon Redd on vocals. I love everything about this song including the vocals, but I spoke with Rick Gianatos who mixed the track and he told me that he felt Sharon wasn't giving it her all. I disagreed with him. :-)

    "Close Your Eyes" Queen Samantha
I remember getting this on Megatone when it first came out and I loved it, but then simply filed it away. Fast forward to 2002 when DJ John Ceglia submitted some of his mixes for my old radio show and I fell in love with this song all over again. It's so different from there classic "Take A Chance."

    "Lucky Tonight" Sarah Dash
When I first read about this track I couldn't believe that Cowley had anything to do with it until I bought the record and heard his signature synth stylings throughout. Also check out the earlier "Low Down Dirty Rhythm" also on Megatone.

"Can He Find Another One" Double Discovery
Boris Midney's foray after the classic Disco years. I still feel that this was his last good song. Nice blend of funky guitar with his older stylings still evident. I like both mixes-"East and West side" and the Polydor pressing was tops.

    "Step By Step" Peter Griffin
Cute little number that's okay, but that was about it.

    When is this list from?

I thought that the Saint was big during the eighties, but I don't recognize any of these songs. Are they hi-nrg or earlier disco?

These are 80's songs, very popular club tracks with one or two radio hits. They are not earlier disco so I guess they are hi-nrg. That label still confuses me even after all the info shared here trying to help me get it straight (that could be the problem   ) in my head.

Pardon moi for my ignorance, but what is Saint Era music? Is it a type of music I've never heard before or does it mean this music was played at some club named Saint?

It was music played at a New York City club called The Saint.

Last week I posted a link to a website that told all about it.

This site is fascinating Phyllis. I really enjoyed reading the stories from the various Saint-goers. Are there any members on this site who have any stories about The Saint?

    Re: Saint Era Music

"Your Love Brings Me To My Knees" Marcia Hines

Australian diva's best ever. Her daughter Deni is a star as well.

    "Jump The Gun" Three Degrees

This should make the sexual list. After all, it's about oral sex. Get out the lyric sheets..

    "The Fun Cry" Cerrone

Listen closely and you'll hear this as an early demo of "Call Me Tonight" from Cerrone V.

    "Step By Step" Peter Griffin

One of the best ever Hi-NRG tracks from Germany. The album had nothing as good on it,but this was a huge classic in Canada when I was playing..

Which Cerrone LP is 'The Fun Cry' from? ('Call Me Tonight' is also on Cerrone IX as well as Cerrone V).

Ah.....that pesky "Fun Cry"!!! When we were attempting to make playlists for Troc stuff...this song sounded soooo much like "Call Me Tonight"...I think it was actually credited to Kongas. Is that right?

    OK, went to the Bible...

1978 brought the release of a 12" single on the New York-based disco label Salsoul, which featured "Anikana-O" and "Kongas Fun," their two best-known and most-compiled tracks.

Wait.......is "The Fun Cry" part of "Kongas Fun"???? Seems like I was told it was the b-side of something. :o
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

Thanx Vincent. Yes, Kongas was a sort of side project of Cerrone's wasn't it?

    Saint Music/Kongas

Yes Steely, and the Africanism CD with his dazzling cover of "Gimme Some Lovin'" with "Africanism" breakdown arranged by Don Ray is beyond a must have...

"the fun cry" is by kongas - it was the b-side to their 12" version of "why can't we live together" - it was essentially a re-write/remake of "call me tonight," which came first and in my estimation was the prettier, more orchestral track. "the fun cry" has a more typical early-to-mid-'80s NRG arrangement and sound, and slightly different lyrics.

Going to The Saint I kept dancing to "Living In A Box" and a catchy track which went "I kiss your boots if you kick me around" - probably something out of Italy.
