Are You A Cat Person or Dog Person?

For me give me cats anytime. They're ultra clean, walk themselves, independant, they don't make a lot of noise and what's more if they're male they don't try to shag you or your leg.
Did I hear someone say yum yum......down fido, down.

I'm very much a dog person (in more ways than one, but we won't get into that here). Dogs are higher maintenance, but are much more rewarding. And unlike a cat, a dog can earn its keep. Whoever heard of a guard cat? Or a seeing eye cat? Or a cat that could sniff out landmines?

Sure, cats can keep mice and other vermin at bay -- but they do this not as a favour to anyone else, but because they enjoy killing small things.

A cat might take a liking to you -- if it's convenient for the cat -- or it might not, regardless of how much love/attention/food you give it. At the very most, a cat will be your friend, nothing else. A dog, however, truly loves you. A dog knows that you are the alpha and omega of its universe, and gives you devotion as such.

Dogs, no contest. I'm as bored with cats as they are with humans.

BTW --- why is this in Bernie's 'SUGGESTION' forum?

I love both dogs and cats. Back in the 70's, our first pet was a dog (who resembled BENJI) and we had two dogs later on. I love dogs BUT one thing that cats have over them is that you DON'T have to walk them.

Now I have a cat (tabby - resembles Morris the cat) and she's my baby. She has her days when she wants to be left alone just like me. She dosen't scratch up the furniture, menace/hiss or scratch guests. If my alarm clock dosen't ring, she wakes me up - the only problem is that she dosen't know the difference between weekday and weekends. I know that there is no such thing as a guard cat but before we all moved out of our mother's house, she would let us know if someone was in the outside hallway or behind the door. We knew from her actions if it was someone who lived in our house or a stranger.

Overall, I love them both! I wanted a dog but my cat is very jealous and dosen't like to share with other pets especially dogs. In the future I'm gonna have a cat and dog. I would like a Persian, Siamese, Calico or another Tabby and a English bulldog, Basset Hound, Jack Russell, Collie or Yorkshire Terrier.

I used to like dogs and cats equally, but since my dogs died a decade ago I've become more of a cat person. That doesn't mean I don't like dogs, because I do. But I prefer cats. I've been around cats all of my life, so that shouldn't be a surprise.

I'm with Delight on this one. I like both for all the different reasons stated above. I own neither now because I just don't want that responsibility right now.

I personally adore pussies. (Now that's something you won't hear me saying often!) I like how they have a cool aura & don't take **** from anyone. I dont like animals to be dependent on me either so cats fit the bill 4 moi. They're their own bosses.

As long as I live into an apartment I don't like neither cats nor dogs. Dogs smell bad, cats will tear my vinyls cover!!! Yes, I'm not joking. I had a cat a long ago, it was used to stratch the nails onto my covers!!!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!
From that time, no more cats, and no more dogs!

I'm a big big big cat lover; we have two right now, though until Bean's death about a year and a half ago we had three. (We were a little worried then that we were on our way to becoming lesbians.)

Our cats are such a big part of our lives, like members of the family really, and very affectionate and communicative. Bob and I often joke (?) that if it wasn't for the cats we might have to talk to each other...! :)

But we love dogs too, and if our house had a yard (we live in an urban neighborhood) I'm sure we'd have at least one dog too. But having a dog where we live now would involve walking him/her twice a day--and I KNOW who would end up with that job.

We're real suckers for animals of all kinds, in fact; any cute animal on TV, etc., will usually elicit an "awww" from us.

Now people, on the other hand, tend to get on my nerves...

    Cat's vs. Dog's

I like the idea that people feel they don't have to choose one over the other. Being a city person cat's adapt very well to indoor life, and they seem to live much healthier than cat's that go outside. I have a 16 pound silver tabby persian that likes Gino Soccio. My cat seems to think the speakers are pedestels for him to pose on. I have to agree with Masdefi, I have gone into my record room and found the cat sprawled out on a stack of records. I've learned to not freak out and approach him very calmly so he doesn't dig those claws into the jackets...that's it...nice kitty...go play somewhere else...

When you said that your cat is 16 pounds, I thought about my cat who is a muscular 18 pounds!!!!!! She gained weight for two reasons:
    1. She was neutered
    2. She eat lots of table snacks

Basically, all she does all day is eat and sleep. Sometimes she gets these midnight spells and acts like a boomerang for a half hour or more. Also I buy her catnip toys and dangly bells and feathers which includes her entire exercise.
