    Bad Disco Remakes

    Hey Guys:
What are some of the bad disco remakes that you can think of my list as follows:

It Only Takes A Minute - Take That
Relight My Fire - Take That
    A Night To Remember - 911
Heaven Knows - Bad Boys Inc
Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel - Worlds Apart
    Celebration - Kylie Minogue
Jump To The Beat - Danni Minogue
Show You The Way To Go - Danni Minogue
Get Down On It - Peter Andre
    Love Hangover - Tracy Ackerman
Working My Way Back To You - Boyzone

Don't get me wrong but I like these artists and their original material but some of this is just aarrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

    Re: Bad Disco Remakes

'If I Cant Have You' by Kim Wilde, 'Dont Leave Me This Way' by Communards & 'Instant Replay' by Yell spring to mind. :icon_confused: Many of those late 90s 'nu-disco' efforts massacred many disco classics too.

Oh gosh SandraDee, I forgot all about Yell! and that brings to mind the following:

    Dancing Queen - S Club 7
Blame It On The Boogie - Big Fun
    Tragedy - STEPS.....

Hmmmmm most of these are starting to sound like TeenyBopper Smash Hits Favorites!!! LOL

The new Danni Minogue single is a rubbish version of "He's The Greatest Dancer" she is definitly shaping up be a serial offender.

Ugh, Tony98 I know what you mean...thank goodness I haven't heard it yet.....and if it's anything like her "Show You The Way To Go", "Jump To The Beat" or "Baby Love" you're right plain rubbish. These people should just stick to their original material in my oppinion....

However, I must guiltily confess to quite liking O'Chi Brown's '87 remake of 'Rock Your Baby' & Pat & Mick's version of 'Lets All Chant'. Not all covers of disco classics are pants IMO!

Here's a real bad remake of a Disco track: Kung Fu Fighting (From Beverly Hills Ninja) by Patti Rothberg. What made her think this was a good idea?

    Re: Bad Disco Remakes

Linda Clifford's BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER was not very good.
Especially stretched at 10 + minutes. Read at the time that she attepmted to make it her McARTHUR PARK...

    But it wasn't.

Also honorable emntion to DANNI MINOGUE's new HE'S THE GREATEST DANCER and PAT & MICK's awful GIMME SOME.
And most of all GLORIA GAYNOR's many awful attempts to remake her very own I WILL SURVIVE...

As a track for just listening to, then yes it does go on for too long, but as a track to dance to it really sets your dancing feet on fire (well it did for me in the 80s). I really liked it and at least it kept the original song format of verse, chorus, verse, etc.

Today's remakes just borrow one line for the chorus and then repeat it a zillion times - what a bore that is!

Cyndi Lauper did a remake of "Disco Inferno" that I didn't like.

Yes I hate when that happens...
Remember a few years back ; the I LOVE AMERICA remake with only the title repeated ad nauseum.

Nowadays they sample a few lines then slap a "featuring so & so" .

    Re: Bad Disco Remakes

There was a late-Eighties house version of "I feel love", which I found kinda painful.

    Does hip-hop "borrowings" count?

SNOOP DOGGY DOGG - She's just a groupie
MC HAMMER - Can't touch this
    etc.

Usually I hate these reworkings. One that I DO like is Diana Ross' Nineties version of "I will survive", complete with a new ending.
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

One disco remake that was rather good (there is one!) was Class Action's version of Phreeek's 'Weekend'.
