Al Jolson was one of the first, though there were probably lots even before him.

definitely not the first, but Bohannon has each member introduced in "me and the gang"

Love Archie bell and the Drells "Let's Groove" as well for the smile factor, such memories!

Showtime by Gary's Gang is another great introduction of the band.

On the old time classic smooching ballad “I wanna know your name” (1973) by the Intruders during the add lip portion the lead singer introduces him self to a honey he’s trying to pick up , He goes “ Let me introduce myself, My name is Little Sonny (Sam Brown), I drive a little red VW…”

Interesting Find: I just gave this cut a fresh listen on CD and picked up a mistake I never remember from back in the vinyl days (better more clear set up today ?? CD ??, New Transfer???) during the same add lip section close to the end , Sam “ Little Sonny” Brown -the lead singer – corrects himself as he says “I just drop you at the Hou(se)- at the door step.. ” you can’t hardly make it out but is there, I guess in the old days they figured most people will never hear it!! And never bother to do a re-take.:icon_rolleyes:

One answer leads me to another.

    Float On by The Floaters.

We not only learn their names, but their astrological signs too.

There seemed to be a trend for this in the mid-80s:
'Here's Grace' (Slave To The Rhythm)
'Chaka chaka chaka khan chaka khan (I Feel For You)
'My name is Janet, Miss Jackson if you're nasty' (Nasty)
    ...ya gotta beat the street......

what about 'Maceo, give me some horns', or 'FRED, FREEEDD,can we take it to the bridge??' Sounds very much like the hardest working man in showbiz adressing his band.....Jaaaames Brown.
Curtis Mayfield is also namedropping in 'Freddie's dead'

In late 50s Ray Charles recorded "Let The Good Times Roll" and the intro he said "Hey every body lets have some fun Ray Charles is back in town".
