Trevor Nelson charts the journey undertaken by Dan Cornelius who created and presented the legendary black music entertainment show for US television, which this year celebrates 35 years on air.
Its impact on the psyche of black Americans and the global black diaspora is perhaps its greatest legacy, and it started around the time of the 'black power' era. With contributions from Earth Wind & Fire, Teena Marie, Shalamar, Sam Moore, Neneh Cherry and Junior.
