Apple Macs & converting to MP3

I currently record my radio shows onto a MiniDisc, then record from MiniDisc to PC (MP3). Then I convert the show into a data file & burn off a CD which is sent to the station for broadcast. I am about to get an Apple iBook (ostensibly for one of my sons), but recognising the recording flexibility of these products was wondering if I can plug my mixer into 'line in' of the Mac, record and then burn a CD that will be compatible with a PC. Given that Apples and PC have entirely different operating systems and use different formats I suspect I can't but....I am hoping someone here will tell me different!!
    Thanks!

Yes, you can plug an audio device into the line-in of your Mac (or use a high quality audio card) and then burn a CD that will work just about anywhere (Windows PC, home stereo...). I've been a Mac guy since 1996 and have been doing this for years with no problems and used to archive my old radio shows this way. Good luck.

But please don't record the music as mp3 :). Record it as wav (44.1 kHz, 16 bit), which is audio cd quality.
