multi part trivia about one group

This group's mega hit was inspired by a scene in an awarding winning disaster film. Can you name the group, song, movie & scene?
A few years after the film a real event happened that inspired the group again to do a song about the event? Can you name the event and song?

I'd give you the years but it would make it much too easy and I think it's probably already an easy one for most of you disco trivia gods:icon_lol:

remicks, i knew if anyone could answer it would be you. you are a trivia god:icon_mrgreen: the 1974 film was towering inferno, the song was disco inferno. The scene that inspired the Trammps was the disco burning.
The New York Blackout of 1977 inspired them to do The Night the Lights Went Out.

the disco was the room on top of the building. i believe it was one of the rooms they were holding the party of the grand opening of the tower. don't remember what it looked like or the music, it's been such a long time since i seen it. i do remember maureen mcgovern of the posideon adventure making a cameo appearance. i just remember reading that Leroy Green and Ron Kersey supposedly wrote he song after watching the movie.
