    Skatt Bros

I know the Skatt Bros had a "hit" with "Walk The Night" and an album called "Strange Spirits"....Yet did they really catch on? I remember hearing "Walk The Night" a couple of times and then that was it...So anyone know what ever happened to them? Weren't they supposed to be a "tougher" version of the Village People???

I only found out recently, but apparently they did a second album (also produced by Guenther/Morrison) called "Rico & The Ravens" (1981, Polygram). It seems that album was only released in Australia.. I've never heard it though.

Thanks I'll check it out....but if it was only released in Australia it must have not been that good... but then again I only really liked "Walk The Night" because I understood the double entendre

I know that their drummer went on to become a session player, I saw his name on several albums I owned (including Kim Carnes, if I remember correctly ("Bette Davis Eyes"). Always liked "Walk the Night" a lot....think I'll go play it right now....

"Life At The Outpost" and "Old Enough" seemed to get more spins in nordic countries than "Walk The Night". "Old Enough" has the kind of lyrics that make you think twice before you bring it on today. Of course nobody blinked an eyelid back in the day.

Interestingly, Walk the Night got tons of play at the little disco I was going to in my little college town in St. Cloud, Minnesota well into about mid 1981. I think it was the sense of mystery and danger that was appealing to the mostly Arabic and African students who were attending. There were a few gays and our freinds but I think it was not played just for us. It kind of fit in with the early rap style songs that were being played there (too much for my preference) at the time.

The Skatt's second album was recorded in Toronto, Ontario (Canada) and in addition to Australia, was released in Canada on Polygram's Polydor label.

A cyber-friend of mine mentioned it on his weblog.A guy was talking about an album cover and by the way he described it ; it sounded like SKATT BROS album.

So I wrote in and by the time he got my response ; he had looked over the net to search for SKATT BROS songs and he found this DISCONET version of WALK THE NIGHT ; he said he liked the song but was annoyed by those FGTH samples.
I quite like them ; having heard the original song so many times ; it is a nice little diversion.

Maybe eBay has copies of it.

Here I am a couple of years later & the story continues.......
    I loved "Walk The Night".
It's a perfect track & would be hard to do a decent remix of it but a nice re-edit of the original could work a treat.
I too just heard the Disconet remix & those Frankie goes To Hollywood samples might have worked a little better if they were actually lowered in volume a bit..........as they are intrusive to say the least when listening.
It also spoils the overall demonic tone of the track.
The second album was released in Australia & I was promoed it by the local company Polygram.
It had no tracks I really liked & was soon discarded.

I actually got to meet The Skatt Bros. when they were doing a gig on Australias' Gold coast in 1981.
I was playing in a disco up the road from the rock venue in which they were playing.
After work I raced down to the venue in my disco gear & the bouncers didn't want to let me in cos they said I would get beaten up for walking in there dressed as I was.
I explained I was the DJ from up the road & pulled out my Skatt Bros. 12" to prove it (he he) & they let me in.
The boys signed my US Casablanca promo (which I'd actually bought as an import) & bid me farewell.
I just made it out alive. Phew!
"Life At The Outpost" was actually a top 5 hit in Australia.....that's why they toured.

    I agree with this statement.

I would add that the porn movie excerpts make this disconet version a bit "cheapo".
